True Grit
I just saw the last movie I’ll see in 2010 : True Grit. I’ve been wanting to see this one so bad and that ever since the first trailer caught my eyes, I’ve also been hyping it up to myself quite a lot. Thankfully, it doesn’t disappoint. I’ve read so much angry comments from the 1969 version purists and I sure as hell can’t understand why, if a remake of my favorite movie was announced with a cast and crew as great as this one, I’d be at least very interested to see it. And in the end, I think it’s a good notch above the original (which was already very good) in pretty much every aspect and that acting wise it’s miles above. John Wayne’s Rooster Cogburn was well-played and iconic, but it very much felt like a ‘‘John Wayne’’ performance, if you know what I’m saying. Jeff Bridges, on the other hand… wow (especially compared to a very ‘‘Jeff Bridges’’ performance like, say, TRON: Legacy, which wasn’t bad, but more akin to a ‘‘John Wayne’’ performance, if that makes sense)! As for Hailee Steinfeld and Matt Damon vs Kim Darby and Glen Campbell, they’re not even playing in the same freaking ballpark! I sure hope Hailee Steinfeld wins Best Supporting Actress at the next Academy Award (although she’s so obviously the main character)!
Also, it doesn’t mean a lot giving the fact that I’ve seen less then 10 films from this year, but it’s currently my favorite of 2010.
I can not wait to see this:
TRON Looks really nice & clean, well done special effects
but has absolutely no Heart what so ever didnt care about any of the characters
Thanks for the heads up on the Terrence Malick movie. My girlfriend loves his movies, she’ll be happy to hear about that (especially since he does like one film every 10 years!) I rarely watch new movies anymore but I’ll definitely be going to see True Grit…

It’s definitively and audio-visual trip above all else, I do wish they would have developed the characters of the computer world further. Less real world shenanigans and more about characters like Zuse and the growing unrest. Still liked it though.
I saw Tron: Legacy not too long ago. It’s fun, shiney surface is all: Jeff Bridges is as good as the special effects, but there is no heart whatsoever to be found here.
Tom Tykwer - 3
Good and enjoyable film about a couple who both fall in love with a man.
saw Tron: Legacy tonight - enjoyable movie with some great FX and action. Jeff Bridges is solid as the dual role of CLU and Flynn. Olivia Wilde is smoking hot and does well as Quorra. I liked it as a late sequel to the original.
Went and saw The King’s Speech with Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush as the King George VI and his speech therapist Lionel Logue respectively. An absolutely class movie from start to finish. Firth plays a tortured royal who sees his future when his brother David (Edward VIII) abdicates the throne thrusting the stammering George onto the throne of the British Empire. If you are looking for a great 1930’s period piece movie loaded with drama and some good lighthearted scenes this is a must see.
The last film I saw in the cinema was TRUE GRIT.
Really, really liked it a lot!
I am probably going to go see it again, this weekend!
True Grit
Watched it this weekend with my girlfriend and her brother. I loved it! It was a great movie. When it’s funny it is hillarious, when it is violent it is gruesome! It held my attention all the way through. Jeff Bridges is the man. He should win something for this role. Highly recommend!!
I saw The King’s Speech last night. An excellent drama, that treats its audience with respect; the performences are all spot on and Timothy Spall is oddly good in a small role as Winston Churchill.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1… wow, what a depressing movie… but I ended up sort of liking it in the end.
BLACK SWAN
Perfect!
Darren Aronofsky and Natalie Portman should get this Academy Award for it! 8)
Yesterday I saw, as part of the Bristol Silent Slapstick Festival 2011, Redicoveries and Revelations! with David Wyatt. It showed some recently rediscovered films by Chaplin, Charlie Chase and Harry Langdon. It concluded with the showing of the previously lost Stan Laurel solo short, the excellent When Knight Were Cold (1923).
Black Swan - Darren Aronofsky
It was a bit like the film’s description of Portman by Cassel. Aronofsky tries to be too perfect in all his films, which makes them too cold and distant. They need some spontaneity and a few “twists in their sobriety” here and there. Even the dirt looks too calculated.
Still an entertaining film with all ballet cliches used. Natalie Portman is of course very good.
So you’re a fan of the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy then?
Not really. She had some horrible dialogues there.
