The Last Film You Saw in the Cinema?

You’re right but only slightly on the side…

For what it is worth…
Just had a chat with my good friend, Stephen Keith. Stephen is a Conan Doyle aficionado. He saw the new Sherlock Holmes movie and loved it! In fact, he says he wants to go see it again this coming weekend.

I don’t know if this is true, as I only read this (can someone please confirm it?), but in Rathbone’s version of The Hound of the Baskervilles, at the end, Holmes says:

“Oh, Watson, the needle!”

Confirmed! He does say it at the very end, it’s practically the last sentence (as if to say: I’ve solved the case, I deserve my 7% solution).

But it never is a real issue…

AVATAR
It was nice to watch it on a big big screen. The plot was a bit simple-hearted and reminded me somehow on a Fantasy Version of Dance with Wolves or other similiar movies. I wonder how many Acadamy Awards this one will get next year!

Too bad Downey Junior is cast for the Homes film.

Why? Great actor. Seen some bits of the film and he’s good.

I somehow never really liked him. Not a bad actor but…

Well, it’s been nominated for a ton of Golden Globes, and they are a pretty good guide as to what the Acadamy Awards nominate.

Yes, the plotline for Avatar was its weakest link. It is a shame, as the visiuals were stunning.

I can’t be bothered by that Avatar, them blue characters look annoying.

The Blue people aren’t as annoying as you might expect, and there’s always Weaver as a subsitute 8) .

LOL you are a funny guy Phil.

Just got back from AVATAR

Kind of a strange experience. It takes some time to get used to the 3D thing. I felt a bit dizzy during the first 15-20 minutes, and had the odd feeling I was in the wrong place in front of the screen, too much to the right or left, too close to the screen, something like that, a bit hard to describe. My wife had similar experiences. It gets better afterwards.

The technique leaves some room for improvement, due to the special 3D-glasses it all looks far from bright, a bit greyish and dull. There’s also a problem with objects or persons too close to the camera, they tend to blur. Subtitles are a nuisance too, they seem to float in front of the image, blocking the view. I’d advice people in Germany to visit a dubbed version, not an original version with German subs (we don’t have a similar option in Belgium, instead we have 2 subs: Dutch + French)

The film isn’t bad. Actually, it was a lot better than I had expected. It runs over 2 1/2 hours, but it’s over before you know it.
It’s a typical Cameron movie, bombastic, all but subtle, but well-told, in a strong visual, muscular style
The biggest drawback was James Horner’s pathetic score. Really awful, they should send that man to another planet.

Some friends invited me to go with them to Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call New Orleans. I don’t know what to think of this film or what Herzog had in mind. But I feel very confident in saying that I think most people on this board would enjoy the movie. It reminded me of some SWs and of some Tarrantino. A supposedly serious film that goes way over the top and includes liberal doses of dark humor.

Hell, that’s racist!

Yeah, what’s wrong with blue characters - that Genie Vincent’s a good friend of mine ;).

Mind you - then there’s the smurfs!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Remember - never judge a movie-character by his skin.

But, then again, if he’s black, blue or yellow, he’ll be a really nice guy but the white guy will always be a capitilist pig/dog.

Soul Kitchen - Fatih Akin

Akin’s new film is a wild comedy soiled in the social reality.
Great fun

Soul Kitchen - Fatih Akin
nice I liked “Gegen die wand” and “Im july” a lot!

Took the wife on a date tonight. After eating we went to see Up In The Air (her selection).

For some reason I knew how this film ended. I must have seen a preview trailer which included some major spoilers. Knowing what was going to happen really ruined it for me.

A mediocre film about an empty guy who does not realize how shallow he really is.

It did have some excellent camera work, not of the show off variety. And it was nice to see a current hollywood film where the main character was involved with someone born in the same decade they were.
