The ´how is this dvd?' thread
Anybody know the quality, cut/uncut status and audio options on these DSX releases?

 • El Regreso de Shangai Joe
 • Dios los Cria, Yo los Mato
 • Los Cuatro de Fuerte Apache
I’m also considering buying the first two. Anyway from DSX the only stuff I got are:

Arriva Sabata!
California
Django
Django il bastardo
Django sfida Sartana
Minnesota Clay
Oggi a me… domani a te!
Un Dollaro Bucato

Gli Specialisti (Italy, France, Germany 1969 / Director: Sergio Corbucci)

Hi, I’m looking for the best DVD of this movie, not bothered about language but must have good quality anamorphic print and be uncut, can anyone help?

The best one I can see is the German edition “Fahrt zur Hölle ihr Halunken” released by Kinowelt (March 7th, 2008), any cuts? or any better DVDs available??

If you understand French, the French release is excellent (the film was shot in French by the way)
It has only French audio, but glorious image quality.
Autephex used it to create a fandub/fansub (he couldn’t lay his hands on a complete English language track so parts are with English subtitles)

The German Kinowelt DVD is uncut. Probably it has a similar picture quality as the French DVD. It was used the same film material. There are German and French audio.

scherpschutter and The Stranger thank you for the input fellas, much appreciated

I’d prefer the French disc (I can get it cheaper than the German) but I wasn’t sure it was anamorphic (no details on amazon.fr) can anyone corfirm that it is?

EDIT :- I’ve just read the film thread for Gli Specialisti, scherpschutter wrote “It runs 1:39:01
PAL/Anamorphic widescreen/French Audio, no subs” - thanks again I’ll be ordering this one

The only english audio source I know of was from the pretty rare Greek VHS release, which is the shorter cut of the film.

I wonder how the ending is on the French or German discs of Gli specialisti? I have the Spanish and Italian discs and prefer the ending on the Spanish one. Not that there’s much difference, I just prefer it because of the much better version of the song. :stuck_out_tongue: I can’t remember which of the two had a longer scene of Hallyday riding away. One of them stops while he is still pretty much in view and the other continues until he can’t be seen anymore.

Yeah I think it doesn’t exist longer on any VHS. There is an at least almost uncut English language film print in Denmark though, but I guess it would be kinda hard to get the audio from it…

In the Spanish version, Hud is still in view in the end, but the horse is already behind the hill. The Spanish version has indeed better version of the song.

Ah, okay, thanks. I remembered it wrong then (Hud going completely out of view) as he and the horse can both be seen in the Italian disc then. I think. Can’t check it now. :stuck_out_tongue:

I had no idea there were two versions. I have the German disc and seem to remember him making a nice exit to music.

So do you mean that the Spanish version has shortened Hud’s exit and changed the song slightly? I’d be curious to see/hear what the differences are.

As for the movie, I have watched a few more SWs since I posted my top-20 and am very happy to say this no longer makes it anywhere near into the list at #20. While this had potential and is undeniably shot very well, I quite like Alex Cox’s sardonic comments on this in comparison to “The Great Silence”.

I guess there are at least three different finals for Gli Specialisti. Couple of years ago I watched this in the Finnish National Audiovisual Archives, and I guess the reels were brought from Denmark. Does anyone else from Finland remember where was it from? Anyway, in that version the film ends and the credits start when the girl exits from the picture, so no Hud at all riding towards sunset.

The music in the Spanish version as in the version I mention above has more echo and kinda 60s/70s psychedelic feeling in it.

There’s a lot of Spaghetti Westerns released on this label (SERGIO LEONE I GRANDI WESTERN ALL’ITALIANIA - all have the same cover design), they’re very cheap (4 euro or so) has anyone purchased any?
Can you share any details of picture quality etc?
I’m guessing they’re rather poor?

The Ocean Pictures release of And God Said to Cain, which I own, actually isn’t bad - I think someone says the same on the AGSTC thread.
