I’m getting the whiff of some Pasolini or Fellini type production ???

Pasolini is quite a good guess as this also has a Sade connection.
Is it the play within a play within a film - ‘The Persecution and Assassination of Jean-Paul Marat as Performed by the Inmates of the Asylum of Charenton Under the Direction of the Marquis de Sade’ or just plain ‘Marat/Sade’ for short?

It is, in fact, ‘Marat/Sade’ (1967), Directed by Peter Brook.

Well done, Montero for getting it right. :+1:

Aldo, you were also on the right lines…

Over to you, Montero

Thank you, @Toscano
There’s some masterful performances in that film/play but it does presuppose some knowledge of the events of 1793. There’s a few scenes that are as enthralling as they are unsettling such as the execution of Louis XVI with the blue blood flowing.
And now for something completely different. This was made for TV but there has been the odd theatrical screening…
