Well done, Montero … correct, and over to you.
That’s a strong visual clue … although I know very little about Asian cinema, I know Toshiro Mifune when I see him
‘Red Beard’ (1965)
Correct, @aldo.
Kurosawa’s last b/w film and final one with Mifune. Despite contemporary reviews, it’s at least the equal of ‘Yojimbo’ or ‘High and Low’.
Back to you.
Thank you, Montero … I’d like to check out more Mifune films, I’ve only seen a couple of the Kurosawa ‘biggies’, and TBH they never really did it for me … too much OTT acting from the supporting cast /minion characters, makes them a hard watch for me.
Anyway, back to business … check this out - one I’ve never managed to sit through, although it has many striking images, it’s so, so slow …
‘The Bible: In the Beginning…’ (1966)?
I get your point, @aldo. Kurosawa’s historical dramas were heavily influenced by Noh theatre, ‘Throne of Blood’ probably being the most pronounced. The stylised dramatic forms, exaggerated make up, and over-the-top performances can be something of an acquired taste. I would recommend ‘Stray Dog’ though, a very early Kurosawa/Mifune film.
Yes Sir … Back to you, T
I didn’t know this one, until seeing the two famous stars … so, a win for you amigo!
Secondhand Lions (2003)
Correct, Aldo. Well done.
Over to you, amigo…
Thank you, Toscano
Now a pseudo documentary from the early 1970s, by a slightly dodgy indie filmmaker
Stumped with this one…one to you, Aldo…
This one was made around the same time as ‘Deliverance’, however it’s about a different kind of danger in the woods … it features interviews with real persons, rather than actors, and re-enactments of their stories.
Is it The Legend of Boggy Creek?
It sure is … by semi exploitationist, Charles B. Pierce, film released 1972
Well done, and back to you, Montero
Thank you, @aldo - those huge box office figures can’t be right?
A Mexican film that received an Academy Award nomination, and the cast features a familiar face (usually villainous) of many spaghetti westerns…
