I’ll start a Rotterdam Film Festival Thread.
Just noticed the new Rambo film is no 2 at the U.S box office, which will be very good for the Stallone pension of course ;D.
Just a little question. Is Shalako worth buying? I saw the dvd for 5 euro. What kind of western is it? Does it have a ‘spaghetti feel’?

I bought it too(and I believe I payed six! in the RAF in Amsterdam). Bardot, Connery and a western seemed good. I’ll post when I’ve seen it.

Shalako has a very interesting premisse: 19th Century European aristocrats on a hunting tour in the Far West, doing all kind of things they shouldn’t do, so very soon having troubles with the Native Americans, Apaches that is.
Connory (looking a bit fat and with silly sideburns) isn’t convincing, Bardot is mainly window dressing, still the movie manages to create some atmosphere and tension, and there are some quite sadistic action scenes (one including a watch, you’ll recognize it immediately). But there are also some slow stretches and the ending is abrupt and dissapointing.
Does it have a spaghetti feel? It’s shot in the Almeria region (I think) but the spaghetti feel isn’t really there. On the other hand: it’s one of those European (but non-italian) westerns made to cash-in on the popularity of the spaghetti western, so it’s not really American in feeling either. It’s not great, sometimes even a bit laughable, but I found it rather entertaining.
So for 5 € I’d certainly buy it
(A few beers before watching it will do)
Thanks for the info, guys. I have very limited funds at the time, so I have to choose wisely. I’ve also seen The Bravados dvd for 5 euro and that will probably be the better buy, considering the cast. (store: Van Leest. a lot of westerns there for 5 euro, unfortunately no spaghettis)
Thanks for the tip, i’m short on cash myself now but that changes the 25th(when I get my student-funds(or whatever it’s called in English) so I’ll check out Van Leest then.

I’ve seen this a few times and have always enjoyed it. I think Scherps review is pretty fair though. It is definitely more a eurowestern than a spaghetti. But for five euros I don’t think you can go wrong.
Having said that, if you’re down to your last five and its a toss up between The Bravados and Shalako, I’d go for the Bravados every time. It’s a classic in my opinion.
Raquel Welch at 67 :-*.
MILF. LOL!
For sure :).
GILF !
Christina Lindberg at age 55, she did a little “comeback” as model just for fun, the Soviet flag and uniform are just props

Help a brother out. What is MILF? I apologise for my ignorance.
Mother I’d like to … forget in this case!! ![]()
Well, call me an old sentamentalist but I will always prefer to remember Miss Welch in her prime.

Ahhhh! A ‘mother’ superior … always partial to one of those. Praise the Lord!
