I don’t want to argue about whether Papi & Colombo are Hall of Fame material, or not. I can see both viewpoints on that, to be honest.
But, I can safely say that Alberto Grimaldi is easily Hall of Fame material…based on sheer numbers alone.
He produced at least a dozen Westerns that I can think of right off the top of my head (TWO VIOLENT MEN, FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE, THE GOOD THE BAD & THE UGLY, THE MERCENARY, THE BIG GUNDOWN, FACE TO FACE, SABATA, INDIO BLACK (ADIOS SABATA), THE RETURN OF SABATA, MAN OF THE EAST, DOLLARS FOR A FAST GUN, TEN KILLERS FROM AFAR…).
Just as an aside, Alberto Grimaldi produced Martin Scorsese’s GANGS OF NEW YORK. I know that has no bearing on SW’s whatsoever, or the above exchanges, but I just wanted to mention that fact.
I’ve jus’ emailed/pm’d the col. to ask for permission to send my votes in tomorrow. I’m bushed and (if truth be told) a bit squiffy. I’ve just finished a commission that has been vampiric on my time and energy, and have been out washing away the blood. Hopefully he’ll allow me to send mine in in the morn. It’s hard work making these lists - I’m more of a watcher than a disseminator and some of these categories have got me beat. Nearly there! (Jus’ got the Col.'s reply whilst typing - it’ll be there…) zzzzzzzzzz

LEADING ACTORS A. Steffen - rolls and shoots his way to the top ::). R. Woods - versatile performances in a range of parts from squinty Mexican to squinty drunkard ;). G. Gemma - for falling backwards out of a tree, and coming back from the dead. G. Hilton - always a pleasure (as long as we don’t get any sillier than his Sartana/Alleluja :P). C. Eastwood - for being a role model for smoking, and swapping a smart one-liner for a beating, when I was a kid. F. Nero - for taking a gun apart with his teeth. G.M. Volonte - FAFDM and Face to Face were so important to me as a youth - and he is the arguably the lead in both of these. L.V. Cleef - for making receding hairlines 8) (let’s forget the wig moments :P). G. Garko - so much more than just his Sartana. T. Milian - nearly overacted his way out of my top ten but stays, despite honorable mentions for…
P.L. Lawrence; C. Hill (not T. Hill - who in my opinion has done more to ruin the genre and bring it into disrepute, than improve it); R. Harrison & W. Berger.
[Edit - oops - and T. Anthony.]
(I’m gonna post this bit now, and I’ll be back in a bit…)
ACTRESSES L. Nusciak - for making me cry :’(. That, and I’m in love with her :-* Erika Blanc - so many (12) films and not so much love for her here in the poll. I. Galli/E. Stewart - a stunning performance in No Graves on Boot Hill does it for me. R. Neri D. Ghia N. Machiavelli C. Alonso - from Mexican peasant to whore - great performances and RF would never speak to me again if I didn’t ;). M. Mercier (if CC gets in for her famous appearence in a SW, then MM equally deserves a place of honour for this masterpiece. So beautifully played - it moves me still :’(.) C. Cardinale - Go on then. S. Blondell - no less than for putting up with her dad!
(My computer doesn’t like me doing long lists - I’ll have to post the others separately.)
