SWDb Spaghetti Western Hall of Fame

Why? There are a lot of people on here that are unique and/or one of a kind for many different reasons and that is something that we should celebrate. We all come from various backgrounds but we put the things that make us different aside to celebrate that one thing we all have in common - a love of spaghetti westerns. I think it is pretty cool myself.

I am sorry for being so insensitive. I totally agree that a love for spaghetti westerns comes first. :cowboy_hat_face:

OK, Mark Damon bio finally done and added to the Hall of Fame page SWDB Hall of Fame/Leading Actors - The Spaghetti Western Database

Let me know if there are any obvious errors. Although I’ll be off in a couple of hours to the airport and in Naples for a week so any changes will probably have to wait till I get back

Good, great job! Thanks to Bill as well for the poster.

Why twelve films? Did you also count those couple of spags imagined and never realized around 1970?

Thanks for pointing out.
I meant 10 obviously. Have edited it now.

I have been thinking a few times about a hall of fame for those that have made a huge contribution to keeping SW’s alive.

I can think of a few people including those who manage SW websites including the SWDB, Tom Betts, Yoshi Yasuda etc.

Any thoughts on this?

Something like this?

Thanks- how did I miss that?

This covers both people involved directly in the movie production process and people who have kept the SW alive - I was thinking of the latter.

Maybe a few nominations are needed.

So, my Spagvemberfest project for this year was based around our Hall of Fame and it got me looking closer at it and thinking about it more. A couple of things sprung to mind.

  1. Eli Wallach is listed under the Supporting Actors category. This seems crazy as he was a big name actor and played prominant roles in all his four spaghettis. I think he should be moved into the Actors section. Thoughts?
  2. The whole voting system for the H of F seems to have largely dried up. We used to have a voting round every new year but the last one we did I think was back in 2021. This may well be because the Forumite who started it all has not been around so much in recent years but that doesn’t mean it has to stop. I am happy to pick up where Len left off and kickstart it again this year. If everyone is happy for me to do that I’ll get nominations started.
  3. With the above in mind, I propose we have a mega induction this year to make up for the lost couple of years.

I second that, it is after all our 20th anniversary year as well  big induction!

We could add 10 new inductees maybe? With at least one new inductee for each category and 2 or 3 for the main ones

I have just rewatched Ace High, and even in the German version Eli was named first. And in GBU and in Long Live Your Death he had a leading role too (next to Clint and Franco).
(Let’s try to forget he made a fourth SW … )

OK, time to make some new additions to our SWDB Hall of Fame.

As part of our 20th Anniversary as a site and to catch up a wee bit from recent year’s inactivity we will be inducting a few more candidates than usual this year. And this is how it will work.

Add any nominations you have here for any category and I will compile them together. In one week’s time we will call a halt to nominations and open for voting where everyone will have 2 votes per category. Once all votes have been added I will announce the winners and will add the new inductees into the Hall of Fame.

So, to get us started, here is my list of nominations.

Craig Hill - Lead Actor
George Martin - Lead Actor
Daniela Giordano - Actress
Alberto Cardone - Director
Rafael Romero Merchant - Director
Roberto Camardiel - Supporting Actor
John Ireland - Supporting Actor (Should he be a Lead Actor? Not sure)
Carlo Rustichellli - Composer
Carlo Carlini - Cinematographer
Raoul - Contributors

I go along with you and Phil on those as well.

There are also a lot of other names I would add to either lead or supporting categories:

Gilbert Roland
George Eastman
Jose Canalejas
Enrico Maria Salerno
Leonard Mann
Joseph Cotten
Jose Manuel Martin
Andrea Giordana
Fabio Testi
Spartaco Conversi
Jean Louis Trintignant
Woody Strode
And what about peoplelike Fonda, Bronson, and Coburn? I know they appeared in less, but their impact is greater than most.

I’d like to nominate Jose Bodalo, Jose Manuel Martin, Frank Brana, Jose Canalejas, and Livio Lorenzon for the Supporting Actor category

I’ve added all of the above to the nominations list. Including Fonda, Bronson and Coburn. I think there is a debate to be had as to whether someone needs to have been active in more than one or two films to qualify. Part of me errs in that direction but all three mentioned, especially Fonda and Bronson, have left lasting impact in the genre. Also, Claudia Cardinale is in and she only made two. So, the door is definitely open I would say.

Finally, what do we think about Enrico Maria Salerno and Fabio Testi? Lead actors or supporting? I’ve put Leonard Mann and Andrea Giordana in the Lead section.

I’d probably say supporting for Salerno and lead for Testi. Hard one though.

Yes, I tend to agree.
I always think of Salerno as a lead actor but, in westerns, he is usually in supporting roles. Albeit significant ones.
