12th - Bandidos

I was kinda curious about those censored cut out shots of horses falling @Bill_san_Antonio mentioned in his post, so I had to check it out. Yes, it’s at the opening train robbery scene and I immediately switched to dvd version in disgust. Why would someone cut out such a great stunts? Horrible.
Anyway, pretty good spagh and I totally understand why would someone want to see a proper duel between Kane and Ricky Shot, but I must admit, the actual showdown isn’t bad at all. Love it. 8/10

Spagvember Fest Day 13

California

First time watch. The 2nd of the three revivals of the SW genre from the late 70’s, and boy it packs a wallop. Very Shakespearean in its mix of tragedy and lighthearted moments. The slo-mo exploding squibs are effective here.

Gemma proved he was just as good playing it straight in a role without the comedy, not that it didn’t work in some roles.

The Koch DVD looks really good.

SPAGVEMBERFEST DAY 13

Holy skewed camera angles, Sartana! Tonight, I’m going with I am Sartana, Your Angel of Death (Carnimeo, 1969), the second movie in the Sartana franchise and the first to be helmed by Giuliano Carnimeo. And if Parolini’s Sartana/Sabata pics were essentially James Bond Goes West, Carnimeo’s debut Sartana picture is basically Batman Goes West. Well, that’s how it’s always felt to me anyway, with our gadget-laden mysterious hero being framed within all those crazy slanted camera angles. He’s being framed in more ways than one here, too, with a bunch of bank robberies being pinned on our man. Will he get to the bottom of it and clear his name? It’s a bloody Sartana picture! What do I suppose is going to happen? I’m just going to enjoy Gianni Garko and his opposite number here Klaus Kinski as the wonderfully named “Hot Dead” - which sounds like a troupe of zombie strippers - doing their level best to out-cool one another, and try not to think about the rest of it too much.

One of the best of the more lighthearted Westerns. I’m glad I downloaded it off Youtube before they took it down.

bummer, but it is very noticeable? This guy wrote it’s hardly noticeable VENGEANCE TRAILS: FOUR CLASSIC WESTERNS: On Blu-ray 26th July | Horror Cult Films

Blood at Sundown

I really don’t know why I bother watching Anthony Steffen spags. He’s blander than a slice of brown bread and all of his westerns that I’ve seen, with the exception of Django the Bastard, have been incredibly generic and uninspiring - and this one is no different. At least Amazon Prime UK had a semi-decent version of this under the title Blue Summer.

Why would you switch to a much worse transfer just because a few seconds of horses falling down was cut out? Is there really any need to be that dramatic over it?

As @Bill_san_Antonio wrote few posts earlier:

Probably not, rest of the movie is probably untouched, I just hate it when someone does that. Why would you even do that? It’s about the principle. Let’s say someone will make a new official edition/release of Road Warrior and decides to cut out all very dangerous looking stunts, because… reasons. About that I would be even more dramatic.

because it’s the BBFC’s animal cruelty policy, and of it’s existence everyone’s aware of. It’s an absolutely horseshit (hehe) policy, but no secret. Option B: buy the US discs of Arrow’s releases

I know what you mean … there are many of us here who have a kinda love/hate thing going on with ‘The Steff’ … I used to find him intolerable, but bless him, somehow he manages to grow on you … I can’t explain it, but I have certainly mellowed in my attitude towards him.

He’s actually better when he has a decent actor to play against, as if he ups his game a bit !? LOL

Oh okay, I didn’t know about that.

I like some of his spaghs: Shango, Gentleman Killer, Man Who Cried For Revenge, Too Much Gold For One Gringo and of course Django The Bastard.

I hate film censorship as much as the next bloke (I think Bruce Campbell says it best) but having horses being subject to animal cruelty against their will isn’t really the same as a stuntman doing coordinated stunt work. Anyway, I get your point about principle but you should at least give the transfer a chance as it looks bloody fantastic. I believe the US version they released doesn’t have the cuts so you might be able to find it online if it makes that much of a difference.

I might check out Shango at some point in Spagvember, I’ve always liked the look of it’s poster

I always try to give him a chance because I feel like with some good directing he could be spag star but it seems he was mostly stuck with B and C westerns so he never has time to shine. I think Django the Bastard was the closest he was to being a cool lead.

Yes, I agree. I have no idea, if those horses were hurt in any way (it actually doesn’t look that bad), but if it is in an old movie, I would like to watch them in their original cut. Some of the horse stunts in spaghetti westerns are absolutely spectacular. Jonathan of the Bears has great horse stunts. Now those stunts look like some horses got smashed. Will some censor from animal cruelty policy erase them from the movie too? Jeez, I hope not.

But on the UK release, those seconds of black screen are still present if one selects the Italian version?

Of course it makes a difference…

Wouldnt be very logical… but are there even two versions included?

to quote the other reviwer: “There’s a brief preface saying that Bandidos has been slightly censored at the behest of the BBFC to remove two horse falls…”
