Spagvemberfest 2020

Very uneven movie, yet it somehow reached to me with the magic of some of its scenes. I dunno, it probably falls into guilty pleasure category.

That dude. And the absolutely unnecessary shirtless scene just to know us that he works out. I liked first half though, but second was just horrible. Not sure about Tores sporting Tuco like persona, I thought he was quite good in some scenes, but annoying in others.

I think it goes a step too far in terms of its silliness, itā€™s only a matter of taste though. I prefer Cā€™ĆØ Sartanaā€¦ vendi la pistola e comprati la bara much more, that one is fantastic fun.

A great story, a so-so execution. The directing seems heavy-handed and very old-fashioned, something you would see in a peplum movie or something, the score didnā€™t disabuse me of that impression either. I think itā€™s decent, but I didnā€™t really find it to be that fascinating to be honest. Considering the potential dormant in the story, it shouldā€™ve been much better.

I know you like that one a lot, I thought it was mostly routine stuff executed in a pretty tasteful fashion with some welcome scripting elaboration and well written characters. I prefer Corbucciā€™s Johnny Oro and Guerrieriā€™s Johnny Yuma as far as the earlier period of the genre goes.

Itā€™s weird because I found Paolellaā€™s direction in Odio per odio to be just fine, maybe a little too standardized and American, but still perfectly fine. In Execution, he doesnā€™t appear to give a damn, itā€™s much closer to a Baldanelloā€™s western in its cheapness and crude appearance. Iā€™m not sure whether the inadequate budget is to be blamed for this or something else, the qualitative difference is pretty stark between both movies. Weird.

Yeah, nice abs. The issue is that both the execution and the story are extremely formulaic and when you combine that technical featurelessness with Harrisā€™s terrible acting skills, the movie just becomes awful. Torres is okay, but the rest is toast.

So this is the end. I expected to watch 10 flick maximum and I managed to watch 30.
Tonight Iā€™m turning towards German westerns, a path I tend to avoid. Great locations and cinematography. Definitely worth.

Hereā€™s the list with my 30 picks:

So I rolled the raffle box for the Dorado Films BluRay and it came down on @Mickey13, so unless Mickey already owns the disc, heā€™s the lucky winner!

Day 30
Garter Colt 1968

Goodlooking film, the main dish here of course Nicoletta Machiavelli as Lulu, but honourable mention also to Marisa Solinas as Rosie, doing all the haystack scenes and, not to forget, Piero Gherardiā€¦

So here is my final tally, and a poor one at that, managed only six viewingsā€¦ But at least I have now seen all westerns directed by Sergio Garrone for sure. Iā€™ve made some notes on Se vuoi vivereā€¦ spara* which Iā€™l post on the films thread later.
