In my opinion it fits the film (From Hell to Texas) quite well that the main character is a rather bland, harmless young fellow innocently stumbling into the situation instead of a rugged, tough westerner. Not sure if it would work for me the same way with Mitchum in the lead.
I prefer conventional, but that doesn’t mean I dislike SWs. My favorites are those weird postwar ones, like Budd Boetticher and Anthony Mann.
