El Torcal is such a great place. I’ve been there about ten years ago, when I hadn’t seen The Deserter, and didn’t know it was filmed there.
I wonder how many comparison shots I took by coincidence. Fortunately, my visit came in the age of digital photography because with rolls of film I would have run into problems quickly…
Photos of a part I’ve yet to upload I think is where the final shootout was filmed, but it was hard to tell because it was set at night and you can’t see much of the surrounding area. It was quite flat as far as El Torcal goes and quite open with similar looking rock formations there. In two visits it’s the only place I’ve seen that looks anything like the scene so I’m hoping it was the place.

Recently made my first trip to Almeria for my 30th birthday. Had a great time there with my brother visiting western related locations and relaxing on beaches.

Got myself a souvenir revolver as well, didn’t fancy the magnets ect. - had to do it. Was a laugh getting it through the airport (which I had to do twice as my flight back got delayed at the gate until the following day).

That was what got me to do it, and I’m glad I did. Such a great place to visit. There are more photos but they get a bit samey after a while.

Very nice photos! Thanks for sharing. I also want to go there someday. I’m afraid the place will be very touristy and busy, but when I see your pictures there is nobody in the background. Did you go very early of late? Or is it not that busy?
Get there for opening time and you will have a good hour or so of relative peace to explore in. It picked up a lot more around midday when a show was about to happen, then it got very busy but we moved on to the next one. Did the same with Fort Bravo the following day, it was really quiet until a coach load showed up around midday again.

Awesome stuff. I wanted to go the there but you had to drive through a ravine and we didn’t want to risk damaging the wheels on the car we hired…id be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit jealous
It’s ok - I have driven up a few dodgy trails and on more than one occasion I had to reverse back up a hill due to craters in the road!
… and if you do ‘come a cropper’, have a puncture or engine failure … ‘the way back to town is only 70 miles’ … (I think you all know the rest)
