Shaw Brothers Cinema

non-stop yes, but very boring… and very poor choreograph

I dont know of any movies made before the mid 70s with advanced fight choreography. In case anyone’s going to be in the LA area March 25th & 26th, The New Beverly theater will be showing a double feature: Avenging Eagle (!) and Duel of the Iron Fists… Followed by a midnight screening of Fighting Fists of Shanghai Joe (on the 26th)

from shaw brothers i had buy a lot
but only those i like:
five element ninjas
rytern of the bastars swordsman
shaolin prince
shaolin intruders

Just watched Jade Tiger… Liked the movie a lot. I wasn’t impressed by the DVD however… Picture is not as good as I expected. Also just got Supreme Swordsman in the mail. Will it watch tonight

Saw Supreme Swordsman yesterday for the first time. I thought it was very good. There are some sped up fights (but not all of them) which was a little weird. The story is simple but perfect for a KF movie. Jason Pai-Piao duels other swordmasters to the death and has accumulated 99 swords. He wants to get to 100 but he has to fight the supreme swordsman to get it. Derek Yee gets involved and theres the usual revenge stuff going on. Wish the DVD had the English dub though. Oh, and btw, One Armed Swordsman Trilogy is coming out on blu-ray in HK!

what I want to see released the most on DVD or Blu ray is KILLERS ON WHEELS.

I doubt they will go wild releasing loads of them on blu but I hope SEXY KILLER gets the blu treatment. Chen Ping is cool in this.

Yodlaf, have you ordered blu-rays from HK before? do you know if they’re region A? I definitely want those! These darn Sonys are impossible to hack! >:(

These darn Sonys are impossible to hack! >:(
I’ve got a number of blu rays from Hong Kong and as you’d expect some are region A locked and some a region free. Thing is some of the ones marked Region A are also region free so it’s best to find out first, but these being IVL I should imagine they are region locked.

Damn those Sony machines, I’ve got a multi region Panasonic myself.

Brothers Five (Wei / 1970) arrived yesterday and it jumped straight to the top of my to watch pile.
Haven’t watched any Shaws in a little while and I fancied a a bit of sword play so got straight to it today. My prime motivation for getting this one was the presence of the lovely Cheng Pei Pei and the little cutie doesn’t disappoint here although she does does share centre stage with a stellar Shaw cast so doesn’t get quite as much screen time as I would have liked. In fact the five sibling storyline and the fact that each one is played by a top draw Shaw star means that everyone’s screen time is diluted while simultaneously forcing a non stop fight fest structure. Essentially every brother gets a couple of individual fight scenes plus a double up and then an all in ultimate showdown at the end so once Cheng’s fights are included too there is precious little time left for anything except a bit of exposition and a closing sign saying “another Shaw production”.
The fights are all pretty good though and the cast is top draw (Lo Lieh, Yueh Hua, Chang Yi etc) so an enjoyable ride if slightly thin on plot and dialogue.
when the chinese in kung fu films flying like birds i hate it looks so fake!
I thibk it has some sort of charm to it

yes maybe something like chinese tradition

The saying among KF fans goes: “Flying is ok, as long as its not too much”

Watched Martial Club - Good fun, not really funny but had me smiling throughout, I love the way that what Pops films lack in brutal action they make up for with great choreography and good scenarios, he knows how to entertain.

Watched Human Lanterns, great Kung Fu-Horror. I’d love to see it on blu-ray!
Watched Human Lanterns, great Kung Fu-Horror. I’d love to see it on blu-ray!
Is there a fully uncut version of this available anywhere. The U.S. and U.K. ones are more graphic than the H.K. release but are apparently still not complete.

Lo Lieh is a nutcase in this ;D

I have the Celestial DVD I got from HK years ago. I remember hearing there is some stuff cut (Like Lo Leih pouring molten lead in a girls head for one) There are some scenes where things definitely appear to get cut out…I’d love to have a fully uncut version!
