Sad news - great Italian director Mario Monicelli – perhaps the master of the post-war commedia all’italiana school – has killed himself by jumping from a hospital window. He was being treated for terminal cancer.
Having reached the age of 95, I guess he figured he would check out his own way, and not let the cancer (or the treatment) take him.

He was one of the favourite directors of Sergio Leone
His masterpiece, La Grande Guerra, was a major inspiration for The Good, the Bad & the Ugly (just think of the trenches, La Grande Guerra is of course WWI)
