R.I.P. Legends Lost but Remembered

I know what you mean about missing out on them. Every time I see stills of celebrities who’ve passed I want to watch their entire filmography.

Re Aldo’s comments - I think the same about big actors and musicians/ bands who pass away and there doesn’t seem to be the same calibre around any more.

Thanks MMcG … there have been so many significant losses over the last 10 years approx’ for people of my generation (late 50s)

I’m talking about ‘Icons’ who inspired or indirectly shaped the way you look at life and art … and sometimes it’s like losing a relative that you haven’t been in contact with for a while, which creates a genuine sense of loss … As we now accept that in society few if any live in perfect domestic bliss, then having these special heroes is important as mentors or role models of a kind, making their loss all the more devastating.

Writing ‘Rest in Peace’ with a sad faced emoji, just seems too little for some of our beloved heroes.

R.I.P. Julian Sands

Tragically, the British-born actor Julian Sands, best known for his role in the Oscar-celebrated film ‘A Room with a View’ (1985), was confirmed dead on Tuesday, five months after he went missing while out for a hike in the snow-covered mountains of Southern California. He was aged 65.

He also appeared in ‘Naked Lunch’ (1991), ‘Arachnophobia’ (1990) and ‘Warlock’ (1989).

RIP to him, I was following the case ever since he first went missing, trying to remain hopeful he’d be found alive. Now I’m hoping it was just a tragic accident and that he wasn’t the victim of foul play.

Foul play? Why would you suspect that? He went hiking up in the mountains at a time when people were warned against doing that there because of very bad weather conditions.

I read a few news stories of hikers getting killed while out in the woods or near the mountains, so my mind ultimately always puts that possibility into the picture. I’m pretty sure it was indeed a tragic accident, just being cautious until the autopsy.

I once bumped into Julian Sands, almost literally … ‘Tale of a Vampire’ was being filmed at a restaurant near Deptford, South East London.

I lived upstairs and to the rear of the restaurant, Cafe Ninucci, and didn’t know that filming was going on outside that night in the old cobbled archway, just off the main street … making my way out by a padlocked door, I was startled to see a man lurking in the shadows, he in turn was startled to see me … he muttered something briefly about filming a take and said I should go on … by that time I recognized him and realized nothing sinister was happening! if only there was it might have been a better production.

Didn’t get to see the film for years, (as I don’t think it got a general release)… and TBH, I couldn’t sit through it … very cheaply made, plus slow and boring.

Wish it had of been a classic in the making … would have made a better story.

R.I.P. CoCo Lee

Coco Lee, a USA-based singer and songwriter whose beautiful vocals were featured in the Mandarin version of ‘Mulan’, and also in ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’, has tragically died by suicide, aged a mere 48.
Her two older sisters announced that Coco was rushed to a Hong Kong hospital, and was in a coma before she died on Wednesday, 5 July. Sadly, she had been battling depression for a number of years.

Coco was born in Hong Kong and was hugely successful pop singer in Asia in the nineties and noughties, where she was known for her powerful voice and live performances.

She was, indeed, an extraordinary talent, who has left us far too early…
