There you go…like lots of love struck youngsters he was just trying to hide his true feelings. Is this the SWDB’s first proposal of marriage… ;D ;D ;D ;D
If it was, then it would be a perfect opportunity for a Leone/Morricone clanging bell sound effect…
Agreed.
And apologies for the big time rag losing…
Just one thing…since pretty much everyone now knows the identity of the “one star wonder” can we just let all that drop too
In future maybe i’ll consider other things when voting instead of solely how much i enjoyed the film… Maybe… ![]()
That’s the best bit of news I read for a while… I’m looking forward to reading your views on whatever you wish in the future, Silver. It will be a pleasure to read them…
Oh…by the way…I don’t think it’s particularly wrong to give ‘one star’ to anything - after all, I only ever give my Christmas tree one star every year… ,
Hear Hear
Very true. Even a marshall only gets one star. ![]()
Hear Hear with that Hear Hear!
And Texas.
…and ‘Pinocchio’
At least 1 star is better than Zero

And I think it’s definitely ok to give OuTW 1 star for whatever reasons, and being bored is btw the perfect 1 star reason for me.
Ha ha, some months (or years) ago I also started unintentional a “how could you dare” discussion by naming OuTW, together with some more films (Matalo amongst them), as one of the most strange SWs.
Does anyone else hate the cheap-effect looking spinning title over the end crane shot?
Argh. It’s as bad as the sound effect when the car jumps the ramp in Man With the Golden Gun.
I can’t say I have really thought about it too much Cat. Given my love for the film it certainly doesn’t spoil my satisfaction at the end.
And my thoughts of what I would have given to spend some time with Claudia Cardinale. Oh those beautiful eyes!!
I don’t think that title looks nice but in comparison to the ones in the beginning and end of GBU I’m just glad we only have “the end” here and not three sentences.
Went to see this last Thursday night at the Brattle Theater in Harvard Square (Cambridge/Boston). It was incredible. Seeing it on the big screen just brought a greater appreciation to one of my already favorite films.
I rate spaghettis in three ways.
- It was a spaghetti western. Didn’t travel out of the norm but still good.
- It was a real western. Better than spaghetti in production value and storyline.
- It was a real film. Meaning it is Very well made and respectable.
Once Upon a Time in the West falls into the 3rd category. My favorite spaghetti western, Blindman, is just a spaghetti. When I try to imagine it as one of my most favorite films, I just can’t do it. Although OUATITW is not my favorite western, I hold this film in the highest respect because it is very well made. If I liked this one more and tried to imagine itin my fav films category, it world be very possible. This review may be hard to understand but it is the only way I could put it. The film is simply beautiful. Bravo Leone. Bravo.
Interesting ratings system you have there… If I had to think about it, I probably would do something like:
- Barely watchable, no-budget, lousy everything. (most of the Fidanis, Death is Sweet From the Soldier of God)
- Watchable, but not necessarily memorable, average spaghetti. (Coffin for the Sheriff, Hate thy Neighbor, etc)
- Excellent, was highly entertained, am thinking about it the next day. (Day of Anger, the Sollima films, some Corbucci)
- Trancendent, A grade filmmaking. I have to say only the Leone’s do that for me. All of the other greats fall into the previous category.
And of course, there’s those that fall in between the first three categories.
Well that is only how I rate spaghetti westerns.
To some of us these films are more than films though, so such petty aspects as “it was a real film” don’t matter much

It’s a way of life ;)…right I need to view a Spaghetti ;D.

Very similar to my system JD!
xploited has an “extended Italian version” which claims to have 5 more minutes than the “restored” version.
In Italian only. I ordered it. Only $6/minute for the additional scenes
!!!
Anybody else have this? Just curious…
