Oh God. I thought this was an awful, awful film. When the actors “floated” through the air, it was done with strings so sometimes you could see them bounce in midair! :o
That’s why SD and Stanton were such good buddies
But yes, Stanton is known for his rather idiosyncratic preferences
Every site should have its own Stanton (last time I was in Edinburgh they were trying to clone him)
Still haven’t seen Quantum of Solace, so can’t say anything about it. The previous one was okay, but to me more a Jason Bourne movie than a Bond movie. Craig would’ve been an excellent Bourne by the way.
Haven’t seen the Die Hards for years, wouldn’t be a bad idea to rewatch them. I remember the first one as a great fun-action movie.
Elephant is one of my favourite movies too, but it’s typically a ‘you either love it or hate it movie’; it’s like some of Antonioni’s or Tarkovski’s movies (albeit a different type of movie): some people are fascinated, others are just bored to death
Not terribly familiar with martial arts movies, I take it?
And who of them is supposed to be the one with the common opinion in that scenario?! ;D
Nope, haven’t seen any of Sergei’s films yet (but I have heard about them). Actually, I’ve only seen Nosferatu yet, but I have seen some clips and stills from other films.
Especially funny is Alan Rickman speaking German. All german surnames are very old Nazi-Like and all germans speak like Nazis altough they eventually come from “Eastern Germany” where they eventually are supposed to be communists and speak very “softly”. I love this movie. In Hollywood Movies “Germans” are supposed to deliver a certain feeling and style and no reality, thats Hollywood. The german dubbed version has undergone a heavy synchonisation censorship. As the official departments here dont want to see themself in a dark light, here the terrorrists are just “international Terrorists” with american names:
E.g. “Hans Gruber” has been changed to “Jack Gruber”
The arkward thing is, that these international Terrorists have an italian acent in the german version. :![]()

Guess what accent they would have in a remake …
Eastern Malesian? ;D
You’re right, that’s strange and unusual, because normally Germans have Bavarian accents in German versions.

Can’t say that I like this…
or swiss. German exchange Üter of the Simpsons is swiss in the german dub and has a strong swissgerman accent.
But I think the yeti in Ice Age had a bavarian accent if i remember correctly
I actually knew this ;D! But I thought it was Austrian German?
I would advise you to see some, they’re are very good and very influential editing-wise, also they are pretty easy to get hold of. This is a very good boxset of his films:

And we wouldn’t want it any other way. ;D
Seriously though, Stanton’s takes on films don’t always match my own but he always makes me question how I feel about something and that’s a good thing I think.
And unlike our absent friend who shall not be mentioned Stant’s views are always well reasoned whether you agree or not.
Vive le difference! (apologies for bad french spelling)
Even if I don’t always agree on is take on the film, I do think he has quite good arguments and I agree with him on other movie-related things.
Serious or just joking?
(Maybe you misread the word idiosyncratic, it’s not a negative term)

Ha ha, yes, serious. But I know you didn’t meant it negative.
Here’s a list of the best films of the last decade, the first one I have seen which I can take serious:
Too many titles, these kind of lists make only sense if they are distinctive
And it’s a typical film scholars list, the result of social networking, film scholar style
It’s the only list so far which isn’t made to 70% out of Hollywood film. So the only one I have seen which isn’t a joke. Of course it has also a lot of films to debate over, and several films I don’t like. And a few which are really a surprise to be seen in such a list.
Which means there are the usual amount of surprises and the usual amount of the usual suspects.
