-sorry for being a geek, but this is my absolute favorite by him, otherwise not a director i value very much i´m affraid (of course Mean Streets & Taxi Driver are real good as well, and i maybe should watch Raging Bull again as it´s been almost 20 years since i saw it).

You’re not a geek, magnus, at least not in my opinion for this reason: I don’t value this director much either. Technically brilliant, but not my kind of artist.
This is tough.
Fav: Taxi Driver/Mean Streets
Least: Cape Fear
Over: King Of Comedy/Gangs Of New York

Goodfellas is up there too. Raging Bull IMO is better to watch for DeNiro’s performance than the movie itself as it can be a little drawn out. Casino is good but resembles Goodfellas in structure too much. Gangs Of New York is not bad for me but too highly regarded for me.
Thanks, Schutter, good to know i´m not alone in this view.
The last Scorsese film i went to the cinema to see was Kundun, a little curious about what the fans of his work thinks of that one?

What about Last Temptation of Christ?
My favourite is After Hours.
I prefer Mel Gibson’s bloody epic. That was actually pretty entertaining. The rest of the Jesus flicks I can live without, except maybe Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter.
Great flick, not often talked about. And Cheech & Chong are in there.
Scorsese is one of my favorite directors, but I feel it went downhill when he got desperate to win that Oscar. I don’t care much for his popcorn-esque movies. Gangs of New York looked great, but it was too dumb for my taste. Didn’t care much for The Aviator either. Still those are not bad movies, but miles away from his best work. The Departed bored me to tears. The original is way better (and shorter). If you want a real snoozefest try The Age of Innocence.
I think he made his best movies with De Niro.
Ah yes Cheech & Chong. I sort of got into the film after seeing Into The Night. After Hours… with all the weird and wonderful characters and all the dry humour.
Scorsese and his work with De Niro is top notch, and would love to see them make a film together again.

Have you seen DeNiro lately? Maybe a remake of The Blob.
Have to admit I have not seen him in a recent role for a while now.
Not missing much.

I’m not a big Scorsese fan. None of his flicks would make it into a top whatever list of mine. To me this whole “cool” stuff is boring and in many cases too much. For example this “are you talking to me”-shit from Taxi Driver. I never understood, why everyone is crazy about this scene.
His movies are well made, include a lot of excellent actors and so on, but not my cup of tea.
BEST: RAGING BULL
LEAST: New York, New York
Underrated: King of Comedy
I appreaciate his work very much and I’m happy that there will a retrospective of his work in Vienna soon.
Exactly my thoughts
