I checked out this one on the blue underground dvd from my local library today!
A spaghetti “western” adaptation of the opera/story “Carmen”! A really great dramatic one of these with a compelling doomed romance storyline!
A anomaly for this sub genre but a cool one because this has to be the only entry in it that was filmed AND actually set in Spain!
I disagree with calling it a sub genre, since it’s not “sub” (under) another genre (e.g. western, since it isn’t a western). Also, aren’t there other Spanish films that are set in Spain and are filmed in Spain? I’d be surprised if this is the only one…
are there other films at least in the realm of euro/spaghetti westerns/cult films that filmed in Spain but are actually set in Spain in the narrative of the film? I know for a lot of the horror films made in Spain from around this same period of time they set the horrors of said films in any place but Spain to avoid censorship issues with the government at the time!
The Color of the Wind is also set in Spain, and has some of the SW ingredients, and is imo closer to being a western, but is also not really a western, a half western maybe.
The part in the middle of Man Pride and Vengeance with the stagecoach robbery is close to a western, the rest is just another Carmen adaptation, a rather forgettable one for me.
In Germany it was nonetheless dubbed into another Django and by that sold as SW, and that was reason enough to make some good cash in German theatres. Actually with about 1,3 mio tickets sold it was more successful than GBU or Il mercenario or The Wild Bunch or Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

I Guess you were talking about Camus’ The Wrath of the Wind/The Wind’s Fierce. Yes, it’s set in Andalucia at the begining of the XX century if I remember it well (IMDB says it’s located in Valencia in the XIX century but I don’t think so).
I enjoy both films, specially Man, Pride and Vengeance, I love the Rustichelli score and all the drama and intensity of the lead actors’ performances.
