JONAH HEX (movie) (2010)

They should have done this in the 70’s with Luis Barboo playing Jonah Hex and someone looking like a woman taking Megan’s part! That would’ve been cool!

Harsh. And here is another review that does Jonah Hex no favours:

YOUR MOVIE SUCKS by Roger Ebert :o

It looks that this guy is not one of those nice critics, but Hey the book title looks great

From what I gather, the Your Movie Sucks book is collection of movie reviews by him on films he dislikes. There are also collections of reviews of movies he likes.

Howdy, Tom!

The DC #1 issue of the comic called JONAH HEX isn’t worth very much. Maybe 5 bucks, at most.
The original appearance of Jonah Hex was in DC’s ALL STAR WESTERN (number 10, I think) and that one is worth a tidy sum.
Also the appearances of Jonah Hex in DC’s WEIRD WESTERN TALES series are worth a little something.
However, the issues of the standard JONAH HEX comic aren’t worth too much.

Howdy Chris!

Good to see you again here, old chap

I have seen JONAH HEX twice, now, and enjoyed it a great deal each time.
It isn’t exactly excellent; but, for what it is (a summer comic book action flick) it is pretty fun.
It doesn’t have time to get boring because the running time is only around 82 minutes!
There are some real “Spaghetti Western” moments in the film which I got a kick out of.
My advice is to forget what the critics are saying…and even ignore what most audience members have said in “viewer’s reviews”. Go see it for yourself, don’t expect too much, and I think you will have a mighty fine time!

And big HOWDY to you, too, Scherp my amigo!
Happy to be here.
I would visit more often, but being unemployed (and searching for work) takes up most of my time, nowadays.

Hi Chris, I was under the impression that you found a new job not too long ago, but yeah I’m in the same boat as you brother. Going freelance at home now. I will take your advice and watch Jonah Hex. I was at first a little reluctant because the imdb ratings are low enough to trip over. Good to see you back on here.

Howdy, Colonel!
Yeah, I think you should take in a matinee of JONAH HEX, if possible. I mean if you can enjoy the Sartana films, the Sabata films, and some lesser SW’s there is no way you are going to out and out hate this movie.
However, if you are a big fan of the older comics…you might be slightly disappointed. Or, if you expect the film to be something along the lines of a Leone, Corbucci, or Peckinpah film…or even TOMBSTONE…you will probably be disappointed.
Like I’ve said, I went with low expectations and turned out really enjoying it (apart from some confusing…too rapidly cut…stuff near the end).

As for the job stuff…
I was supposed to have a job waiting for me at Okla. State University when I moved back here from Arizona in May. But, the powers-that-be at OSU eliminated the position (and temporarily that whole department!). Nothing else has presented itself, apart from a temporary job I had back in May cleaning apartments and doing minor remodeling for a local Landlord buddy of mine.

If anyone gets “Batman: Under the Red Hood” or downloads it ::slight_smile:

There is a Jonah Hex Cartoon on there that goes for 12 minutes its fantastic voiced by Thomas Jane

You may be able to find it on the web as DC Showcase presents Jonah Hex

Its a great western cartoon with almost a manga style animation has a true Spaghetti feel to it aswell
I imagine its better then the Jonah Hex movie which I havnt seen yet.

By the looks of it, this film may have hurt the Western genre’s future. Made back less than 1/3 of it’s beudget and was critically panned. but it isn’t a true Western so we shall see.

I watched it today

Jonah Hex, it wasnt too bad I think all the bad reviews helped me enjoy it more because I wasnt expecting to much…

The 1st 20-30 minutes are pretty cool like a straight western/revenge flick should be but then it goes abit “Wild Wild West”
(new type over the top weapons that wouldnt of been around then etc)

The talking to the dead also may of worked better in a more Artistic type Western but not big hollywood block buster style film such as this I think they should of left it simple like in the cartoon at the begining (dont want to give to much away)…

I’dd give the movie 6.5/10 like I said nice & strong at the start but goes slowly down hill, Josh Brolin did a fantastic job though cant really fault him on playing Jonah…
(even though would of been cool to see Tomas Jane in his place hearing his voice from the cartoon he did a fantastic job)

Saw it two days ago. The story is pretty bad and, from what I heard, a lot of cool stuff in the screenplay didn’t make it to the film. I like the spaghetti type atmosphere in the first few minutes, but it gets routine very quickly. The only thing not being standard is the occult stuff thrown in. That’s pretty cool. Like in Machete the special fx are far from convincing. Also, I don’t find them fitting for a western. Luckily it’s not all about the fx. The cast is quite good. Brolin does alright and so does Malkovich. Megan Fox is a lousy actress, but looks convincing as a whore. In the end it’s merely an ok popcorn flick with a sufficent amount of action. The concept definitely was not used to its fullest potential. 6/10

hehe, I think her career is pretty much gone now

I caught it in the theater back in July (or thereabouts). It did have some promise in the beginning but the last 60 minutes (out of a total of 70+) was rather meh and it should been and could been a lot better. Megan Fox doesn’t do anything for me. I like Josh Brolin a lot but the film wasn’t fleshed out enough to have any last impact (actually I am remember a lot more of it now than I expected I would). I agree with BL’s assessment of the movie and his rating of 6/10 is dead on.
