Italian Crime Films

I just got the blue-underground version of “The Big Racket” with Fabio Testi.
The product is excellent and the film is very good. Its a film about the laws inability to protect the public from organised crime. Great stuff, 4,5 out of 5 stars from me.

I wonder if anyone have seen “La Polizia incrimina la legge assolve” better known as “The Marseilles Connection” with Franco Nero from Enzo Castellari?
If so is it worth hunting down?

Also known as High Crime. I haven’t seen it yet but I’ve heard it should be great, probably Castellari’s best crime film. This was supposed to be released by blue-underground as a part of their Castellari-films but it was cancelled. I don’t know why. Only other dvd release of this film, as far as I know, are:
and I’m quotinq Yodlaf Peterson here again:

"High Crime" has come out in England on DVD under the title "The Marseilles connection" but it is a really shitty pan & scan transfer taken fron the old U.K. midas tape (you can even see tape lines!). i have a Japanese DVD which is a beautiful 2.35:1 letterboxed print but unfortunately it is Italian language only with Japanese subtitles.

Thanks Bill san Antonio
I hope that Blue-underground will release it, if not sooner then later
Those japanese versions are just to expensive in my opinion.
Those japanese versions are just to expensive in my opinion.
That’s true and I don’t want to spend too much money on release without english audio or subs.

I’ve got “The Marseilles Connection” PAL? Region 0 23rd Century its available for £1 in England (pound shops) its crummy quality (as Yodlaf Peterson points out) but despite this I did enjoy the film, many of the scenes/ideas could sit quite happily in a Spaghetti. They also do Castellari’s “Revenge” again crummy quality but well worth seeing, also £1. Both are English audio.

You cannot go wrong for one U.K pound!

I sent a mail to Blue-Underground and asked if they are going to release it or not, if they won’t I will get the U.K version for sure.

It was impossible for me to wait any longer so I just purchased it for 2£ on eBay. It runs 97 min so I don’t hope its cut to pieces.

I am sure you will enjoy, and not a bad price to pay.
I did enjoy the film, many of the scenes/ideas could sit quite happily in a Spaghetti.
Franco Nero has pointed out in some interviews that his crime movies wth Castellari were basically westerns set in the modern times.

Do you know if the 23rd Century label is an official set up?, I have tended not to think so.

I just got the “The Marseilles Connection” it runs 98 min. Its from 23rd century and is taken from and old tape without any digital remastering so the quality is not very good.
The film in itself is great though the best I have seen from Enzo Castellari this far, I just wish that someone would digitaly remaster it and maby even give it a new english dub since the dub on this version is horrible.

i doubt it very much

Picked up a film today I have not heard of before, and it describes itself as an Italian Crime film, and stars Alain Delon.

Directed by Duccio Tessari and is called Tony Arzenta (Big Guns), and have just watched the trailer.

The film looks good, but then again I have only watched the trailer so far!

Superb film, it’s an Italian / French co-production.

what version do you have because i have only ever seen a Japanese release on dvd unless you have a tape.

Yes, thats right it is the Japanese DVD, and I am really looking forward to watching, but all I seem to do these days is get the films and not watch them!.

I will have to make an effort, instead of trying to earn a few dollars more.

Do you have the DVD or a tape?

Well, I’ve only seen two Fernandio Di Leo movies, I Padroni della Città (Mr. Scarface) wth Jack Palance and La Mala Ordina (Manhunt, or The Italian Connection). These movies lack substance in my opinion, with plots that are almost stupid. Nevertheless they provide good fun. I think it’s the cool seventies vibe that does it. La Mala Ordina has a nice score by Bacalov, by the way. I was wondering if these tow movies are representive of the Italian crime genre?
These movies are public domain and you can download them here (torrents):

Mr.Scarface is just ok for a Di Leo film but Manhunt is one of the best, violent, gritty, excellent score and a great performance from Mario Adorf.
