I Just Bought … (Non-SW Shopping Diary)

In July thus far:

And then upgrading to blu-ray from DVD (2 for £10 in the local supermarket? Superb!):

I’m led to understand that Chernobyl Diaries is a bit rubbish, but for £3 I thought I’d take a punt, see for myself.

@ Blood Relatives

Not a bad movie, but the trouble seems that the actors aren’t used to Chabrol’s way of directing and more introvert style of film making. Some of them seem confused, as if they don’t really now what to do, especially Sutherland.

I think at that time Chabrol did not knew what to do or what he wanted either. A lesser Chabrol for me.

Some Japanese craziness ;):

A lesser Chabrol for me.

Sure

Blood Relatives is one I found hard to retain interest in for whatever reason.

I’ve just received this one:

My viewing choices have just been solved with the arrival of this today:

The box looks so good that you could be tempted to watch it for hours instead of the movies.
I’ve seen it a couple of times in shops and almost bought it, even though I’m not a fan of the Godfather cycle.

Like alot of music in films of course, but that theme in the Godfather films has always annoyed me  .

A staggering cover indeed, this blood splattered in the foreground looks evocative. Anyway, the most striking cover I’ve ever seen is this one:

Once I saw it, I knew I had to have it in my collection and this is how I got to know this obscure near-masterpiece by Lucas.

I’ve just bought some Masumura flicks :):

Ordered a copy of A Man Called Magnum, Rulers Of The City, and got a cheap copy of Drummer Of Vengeance.

Horror maestro Mario Bava’s classic Lisa and the Devil arrived on Blu-ray today.

The greatest saga in the universe:

The greatest saga in the universe - Not in them interfered editions it isn’t. If they released the normal versions on Blu I’d get the 77-83 ones. Phantom Menace I thought was utter dogshit and Clones was just O.K. I thought Sith was pretty good though considering.

Same with me. Particularly Phantom of Menace gets on my nerves.

The best thing - indeed, the only good thing - about Episode I: The Phantom Menace is Red Letter Media’s Phantom Menace Review[url]- YouTube. Awful film. That said, that blu-ray set is still bloody lovely, despite having omitted the original theatrical versions.

A) I like the Prequel Trilogy (including The Phantom Menace) a lot, so I’m very happy to have them to watch on Blu-ray and B) I would have liked the Original Theatrical Cuts, but it isn’t a deal breaker for me and I am fine to watch the Original Trilogy on Blu-ray of the Special Editions instead.

Sergio Martino’s Torso on Blu-ray from Blue Underground arrived today (it’s my first taste of the U.S.'s slimline Blu-ray cases):
