Hmm. Watched it the night before last. I liked it, I’m glad I saw it, I’m glad I own it finally… but I didn’t love it. Terrific massacre to open proceedings, and the climactic massacre was pretty good too, and certainly as brutal as almost anything I’ve seen in a western (Bone Tomahawk trumps it in that regard, but that was many, many years later of course). But the space in-between, which started fairly decently (I didn’t necessarily mind it being a more light-hearted buddy/road movie at this stage), became overlong and somewhat tiresome. An AWFUL lot of Candice Bergen - who I thought was great tbh; anachronistic, maybe, but not distractingly so for me - hammering and hammering the point home about the Vietnamese - sorry, the Injuns - being the good guys here; even as the fully paid up yoghurt-knitting Wolfie Smith Guardian reading Labour voter I am, this was a bit much . Also, I couldn’t stand Pvt Gant, the titular “Soldier Blue”. All he did was weep and wail, and clutch his pearls. And get himself in the shit, a lot.
But I’m glad I saw it and glad I’ve got it, as I say. I’ll definitely give it some more watches down the line.
Also ordered The Inspector Wears Skirts (Chin, 1988) and its three sequels from Amazon yesterday, since the first three movies were all in the Prime sale.
There’s an MGM re release of Killer Clowns in the UK? Dang. Was so certain Arrow would still have the rights so they could do a UK 4K release. Looks like I’m gonna have to import the Scream Factory one
I bought the regular Arrow release second hand from CeX, for a bit more than I would usually pay but it’s my in my top 4 movies of all time so I was happy to pay the price. I am glad we atleast have some release out there now as the Arrow has been OOP for ages now.
Never seen Devil Girl From Mars or Ice Cold in Alex. Seen Sid & Nancy and Don’t Look Now but neither for decades. Saw Smile very recently, was pleasantly surprised by it. Good little horror.
