He had some replica models strewn around…but I suspect that the originals were in his work-room.
I saw a few ‘replica’ bronze models of his original creations that had deteriorated, so he was kind enough to show me those.
I didn’t go to his home expecting a tour…I think the most important thing for me was to be met by Ray and his wife, Diana, in such a cordial, beautiful way.
That’s the memory - meeting the creator of my childhood/adult fantasies, and ever-lasting memories.
Couple of days ago: Bought the three James Dean Blus in a set for £15, and picked up the Mel Brooks Blus for £7 each. I already had Blazing Saddles on DVD but the rest are first-time purchases. I’d never even seen the Jimmy Dean movies (I watched East of Eden the night I bought the set; it was pretty good).
I was very close to adding Holy Virgin vs The Evil Dead cause it looked similar to The Seventh Curse (one of my all time favourites) but after reading the thread for it on the blu ray forums a lot of people said its not as crazy as the title suggest, so gonna wait for a standard edition or a sale for that one.
Probably gonna do the same for Fist of Legend as I just haven’t really watched any Jet Li movies, although from what I’ve read this seems like a good starting point.
Just ordered a fat bunch of Blus from Powerhouse/Indicator in their 3 for £20 sale:
The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (Juran, 1958) 20 Million Miles to Earth (Juran, 1957) Blue Collar (Schrader, 1978) Charley Varrick (Siegel, 1973) City of Fear (Lerner, 1959) Ghosts of Mars (Carpenter, 2001) The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (Hessler, 1973) Hardcore (Schrader, 1979) It Came From Beneath the Sea (Gordon, 1955) Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (Wanamaker, 1977) Vampires (Carpenter, 1998) The Wild One (Benedek, 1953)
It’s only got the International Cut which completely removes the ending showdown that wraps up the story. Stupid to even release it at that point. I also have that German release and it’s excellent+ fully uncut!
