Enjoyable comic-book nonsense…
I was really surprised by ‘Jonah Hex’ … didn’t it get slated at the time of release? I found it thoroughly enjoyable and maybe misunderstood by it’s target audience of (numbskulls) teenagers or whatever
Great fun for western fans and as I re-call, really dark humour in there too, which may have been missed by it’s critics. I might just dig it out again for a re-watch.
Well, I couldn’t find this at a lower price, and I really wanna see the film, so I pulled the trigger,
New blu-rays:

Very much so, Aldo. A lot of criticism was thrown at this much-maligned movie.
However, like yourself, I found it then, and still do, an enjoyable romp ‘Spaghetti’ style, with supernatural elements thrown into the pot for good measure. I liked it from the word go, and have stuck to my guns ever since…
To be honest I disliked Jonah Hex mainly because the movie got away from the comics. Jonah Hex has no superpowers in the comics, like talking to death people. I think that was also the main comment on this movie.
It works very well for someone with no love for comics or superhero movies
but I can see that comic book purists might be upset … oh well! LOL
I’ve never really understood the hype to be honest. I think Mulholland Drive is a pretty terrible film. Blue Velvet, The Straight Story and The Elephant Man remain Lynch’s best films for me.
Some new pick ups
A strange but entertaining and well done giallo with the under-appreciated Mimsy Farmer.
A giallo that was Riccardo Freda’s final film
A Sci-Fi horror from Umberto Lenzi
Technically a trade instead of purchase. The first actual movie released by Wild East and one needed toward completing the collection. I only had to give up some DVDs that I have upgraded to Blu-ray which is much, much, much better than paying the ridiculous $100-$175 it goes for on eBay.
I’d never - and still haven’t - read the graphic novels. If I had, then perhaps I’'d have a more critical view of the movie, and how the character on the page was brought to the screen…
My only complaint was that the film was way too short (1.21), and eight or so mins of that was end credits…I felt more could have been done with the tale.
On the plus side, Josh Brolin was excellent in the title role, and John Malkovich portrayed a mean SOB.
Awesome haul! I just recently picked up Arrow’s version of Nightmare City after my recent Lenzi binge. Looking forward to watching it when I get home from uni.
Thanks! I’ve been on a bit of a Lenzi kick myself as of late, along with Castellari, and have a few more from Lenzi on the way. I’m sure you’re looking forward to getting home for a good movie binge and a break from the noodles.

I sure am! I managed to find the two Fernando Di Leo boxsets at a really good price on Amazon so I’ve got them to look forward to. The guy on eBay I got Nightmare City from was also selling the 88Films release of Amuck for a super cheap price considering it’s OOP so I’m looking forward to that too (especially considering it has Barabara Bouchet AND Rosalba Neri
)
Still had a little Christmas gift cards left over and used 'em to get this sweet set
I’m really digging Castellari’s style, looking forward to seeing High Crime when that comes and am excited that Ulrich Bruckner is putting out Johnny Hamlet.
New blu-rays:

Three new Umberto Lenzi arrivals:
A couple of his collaborations with Tomas Milian and…
…a classic giallo.
I was happy to get this one as well since it includes Autopsy with Mimsy Farmer which I’ve never seen.
Nice haul. I love The Cynic, the Rat, & the Fist, one of the first Blu Rays I imported when I got my Region Free Player. I still need to get Syndicate Sadists, albeit the German edition as the 88 Films edition doesn’t have the Italian audio for some reason. I have the 88 Films edition of Seven Blood-Stained Orchids myself, I did have the Kino edition before, but Kino ****ed me off with misinformation on a release and they never responded to my inquiry on that, so I’m boycotting them. Still need to get that Gialli set too.
Syndicate Facists is fantastic. One of my favourite poliziotteschi. And you can’t go wrong with the ultimate macho trio of Milian, Saxon and Merli!
