It would’ve been better had the Sultan killed Gopher!

What’s In The Basket? - feature length documentary covering the Basket Case films, and briefly touching on Frankenhooker. Included in the extras on the Basket Case Trilogy blu ray from Second Sight (UK). I’ve never seen Frank Henenlotter in any interviews so this was an interesting watch. Also features Kevin Van Hentenryck, James Glickenhaus and various people associated with the films. Kevin Van Hentenryck mentions that he’s been wanting to do Basket Case 4 for a long time, and Henenlotter says he now has a “crazy” idea for a fourth film which is a total departure, and that he wants to do it.

I don’t think I’ve ever come across anyone who has any real love for this film at all, and yet I find it bloody brilliant. I think it ends better than the book; don’t Starling and Lecter wind up as a couple in the book, or something?

Hannibal is a typical Scott film. It’s not bad, the directing seems to be fine, and every second I think it’s all wrong and a better director would have made a better, if not a great film, out of it. (Means I always think of Scott only as a director)

I’ve read the book when it was published, so I don’t remember exactly what happened, but a relationship is at least strongly suggested. I do remember that I found the ending both odd and unbelievable. It’s not a very good novel, it keeps you reading, but you notice Harris din’t really know where to go, neither with the story, nor with the Dr. Lecter character, most plot twists feel far-fetched. I think he didnt feel like writing a new Dr. Lecter novel at all, but everybody was waiting for it. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle had the same experience: he was sick and tired of this fellow called Sherlock Holmes, but everybody expected new stories about him.

JASON GOES TO HELL

If they had followed the routine F13 for the first part of the film, and used the beginning as the ending (instead of Freddy), I would’ve been pleased with this being the end of the series. As it stands, they had to go and rip-off THE HIDDEN. Bah.

Frank Henenlotter seems to have had the same experience with Basket Case, and says he quit making films for a while because everyone kept rejecting his crazy new film ideas and then asking him to make Basket Case 4 (which he is now ready to do).

i saw SHOCKER 1989 good film litle crazy after 45 minutes but it’s ok
i hate MPAA!! they cut 13 scenes!

JASON X

Goofy and fun film.

Still think they shot their wad a little too early by revealing the Uber Sultan in the trailers, though. They should have kept him as more of a surprise.

Screenshot comparisons are up for the Synapse vs Arrow blu ray releases of Demons / Demons 2 :

Looks like the color, particularly the darker color, is quite substantially improved on the Synapse release

Wow, Synapse all the way!

yes synapse release it’s simple explosive!!! maybe it costs very expensive but wort every penny!!
also include the original dub audio!

Im going to pick up Demons. Havent seen Demons 2. Is it any good?

Not as good as the original, but it holds its own ground. It’s decent.

I recently viewed Demons 2 for the first time and liked it a lot. I wouldn’t rate it as highly as the first film, its not as “big” but it still captures the same spirit

horrible the demons 2, the worst story i ever seen, only the special effects worth, not so gory like the original

Thanks for heads up. Ill hold off that one

Basket Case 2 - first time watching - its a fun film and certainly a very weird one, but its just not quite on par with Henenlotter’s usual work. BC2 seems a little goofier and less “smart” than I’m used to from Henenlotter. But its still obviously his film and still enjoyable.

Bad Biology w/ commentary - Interesting to hear Henenlotter talk about his work. He’s a super enthusiastic guy that conveys a lot of love for what he does and everyone involved.

I just have Basket Case 3 to watch and I will have viewed all of Henenlotter’s films.

i hate MPAA!! they cut 13 scenes![/quote]What I hate is when something is cut for an R in the U.S. and the rest of the world get the same version, we often used to get the cut R prints over here and then cut them more!!!

Sometimes we’re better off though, our Nightmare On Elm Street was uncut and the U.S. one was cut, well it was when we had it released by CBS Fox over here, then when the widescreen one come out on EIV/New Line it was the cut R print. Elm Street 4 was cut Nunchakus here but when the EIV one come along we got it uncut. But… Elm Street 5 was uncut here and cut for an R, and when the EIV one came out, you guessed it, cut R print.

Also the old rental tape of Swamp Thing was uncut here, when the DVD came out, cut U.S. version!

The MPAA are a bunch of fuck-cunts
