The blu ray was HD scanned from my 35mm copy that I had put together from two copies. So, there are differences in quality but it is the quite complete German cut. Only reel no. 3 was missing in one copy so there are some minimum jump cuts. The label then reconstructed the longer original Italian cut from another source. Both prints are longer than old Spanish DVD and German YouTube Sources are using the German Dub since then for their streaming versions. The Dub only was available from the two 35mm sources and I am thankful that both picture and dub are āsaveā now.
I was also wondering why āPriscilla Steeleā looks so different from āEvelyn Stewartā. I think it is both Ida Galli but in this movie her make up is very differentā¦
Editā¦here are the differences in the cuts (German BD vs. Spanish DVD)
Thanks - thatās very useful. There seems to have been a lot of work done on this restoration. I had thought the main 95m version was a composite cut because of the switches from Spanish to Italian dialogue especially in the scenes in which āSugarā has drawn nude women on his cell walls. The Italian censor notes refer to the original ending and the mention of Quantrill:
I think āSteeleā is Galli but in the scenes in the saloon in which she is made up differently it actually doesnāt look like her. When I saw this I thought originally that the woman in the saloon was a different person to the one held up with the stagecoach until they referred to her by Nelly. Then, she changes her appearance for the wagon journey and looks like Galli again!
Update - The German booklet accompanying the Blu Ray disk by Christoph Kellerbach - glued into the cover rather than being detachable - identifies āSteeleā as Galli also. As does Wikipedia.it (although, of course, they could be all copying each other). Galli appears billed as Evelyn Stewart in Django Shoots First, another Alberto de Martino western
Aurora Julia subsequently became āMonica Randallā and appears revealingly in a small role in Red Sun.
