Hell on Wheels

Anyone watching this? My girlfriend says it’s good.

Remember this quote ;D

“Doesn’t exactly get my juices flowing.”

Yeah, i’ve watched the first season, it’s a pretty good show! Hopefully the second season is just as good, if not better.

me too, great ending of first season btw - Mr. Boooooooooooohannon

My wife and I watched the first season and enjoyed ourselves. The show is not Deadwood, no matter how much people want it to be, but it’s perfectly good western entertainment with something of a bleak edge.

Wow, I completely forgot about that other topic. I have to be honest, I still feel a bit that way. The digital look really turns me off. But like I say, my girlfriend seems to think it’s amazing and I will love it, so I thought I would see what the word is.

I’m not 100% sold on it just yet. I watched season 1 and enjoyed for the most part, but I felt almost obligated to slog through it rather than excited. I’m hoping it picks up in season 2.

can’t wait for the new season. I hope they turn up the pace of the series a bit… it moves quite slowly at times

I’ve only just completed watching season 1 with the wife and I have to say we both really enjoyed it.
As others have said, it’s not Deadwood, the writing isn’t as strong, but it is pretty solid for all that and we actually liked it better the more it went along.
Great scene in the final episode with the preacher and the severed head giving Bohannon spiritual guidance. ;D

We’ll definitely be watching season 2.

Good to know you both enjoyed it

For me it’s a great Colm Meaney show. A good heir to the Mr. Choo Choo legacy

Will be watching Hell on Wheels 2 Hour Premiere of Season 3 tonight.

Great show, haven’t missed an episode.

Have only just now started watching Season 2, and amused to note that towards the start of episode 2, there is a scene in a jail cell which is basically lifted from The Stranger by Albert Camus. Even the dialogue is paraphrased. I must admit the scene works quite well in the context of a western like this.

I’m all caught up with the show to the mid-season 3 finale, I actually think it’s really fun. Watched this every week since the premiere of the first season, been loving the bitter tone of the show all the way. Much better than the Walking Dead, I gotta say.

That’s a bold statement there, fella. The Walking Dead is awesome.

I’ve had season 1 of HoW sat on my PC for over a year now, still haven’t gotten around to it. Fargo, Black Sails and Happy Valley all definitely in front of it in the pecking order for what we’re going to watch next at casa.caress. I’m trying to get stuff off of the PC though right now, so it’s got that in its favour. I’m just concerned that I’m going to unfairly-yet-inevitably find myself comparing it to Deadwood, where it’ll unfairly-yet-inevitably come up short.

Hahaha! Well, after season 2 I got real tired of it, just killing off interesting character after interesting character while the main roles have just lost any charm they had. I know my parents love it, but I just can’t see it.

As far as Black Sails goes, you’ve got a real winner there. I loved that first season, can’t wait for more! And Fargo was real nice, solid series there.

Heh…i don’t know about that! The first season didn’t impress me much, and why did they killed off two good characters in the story? If the second season don’t improve, it’s going to be… c’est la vie for me.

Well, by winner I mean it’s a hell of a lot of fun  Good to see a pirate series out there, unwarranted deaths not withstanding (though if you’re referring to a certain character who goes offscreen, I have the feeling that’s not the last we heard from that one). Also, I really like the Captain Flint character. I think there’s more flesh on him that we’ll see following that season finale. Oh, and one final note, the effects are great. Only CGI that seems apparent is in the scenes with lots of ships, everything else is real. They actually made what, 2 ships? Entire pirate ships for filming, that’s pretty awesome!

I wouldn’t personally rate HOW as highly as The Walking Dead. I know TWD uses suspense to keep people hooked, but its kind of great because of that also. HOW also kinda petered out for me as the show progressed through season 1, and I’m only 2 episodes in on season 2. So far, my feelings haven’t really changed… actually, I’m kinda bored with it so far. But I’m sure it will probably get better.
