I liked the action scenes in this⦠especially in the end, it gets pretty exciting. Always found John Ireland has less of a presence without his beard, for some reason
the first 40 minutes has no action, what action? :o
Some people need less action and they are entertained as well.
Gonna watch it, Iāll buy it along with Vendetta per vendetta, also starring John Ireland.
Theres alot of action, mostly in the 2nd half, so he might have turned it off before thenā¦
Theres a good scene where Ireland and Sabato are firing through the windows and then the music kicks in when Sabato sees Ireland in the opposite window
Sounds cool.
Re viewed this one yet again . Forgot Fernando Sancho was in this one. There is a jolly music track played in the film a bit which I like, but sometimes a bit mis placed in regard to whats going on in the film. John Ireland does not have much luck in the big picture of things in this one, and he portrays it well. A good standard western for me, made easy by the fact I like Ireland in Spaghetti roles as he adds something different alot of the time as an older type of character.
Looks like a film I need to watch. Iām not a great Ireland fan, but he usually does well in spaghs. Heās just the right person for them, thanks to a sort of gruff ugliness: the good bad voice, the good bad face. If I watch Ireland, I always think Eddie Constantine would have been a good choice for a SW too: the same face, the same voice.
And Iām one of the few people here who really like Sabato. For me heās always good value in a spagh and the combination with ireland shoud work. Looking forward to watching the two.
I watched it, and it was worth a watch. No classic, but a nice above average achievement:

My copy arrived in the post yesterday. A nice little western, which probably has one of the most unintentionally funny scenes ever, when Sancho shoots someone, strolls over over and says āAnd I kill you againā, before blasting him again.
I agree with El Topo, 3,5 out of 5.
In my view, Top-100 SW.
I watched it just today. First SW after a long time. I enjoyed the most of it. It needs to be said that the first story oriented half is much better than the second action one. It just seems the screenplay is all over the place, not very focused try. The story fades to black after Ireland gets out of prison and we get just endless stream of violence, arguments and shootouts. Highlights - The bank robbery, all jail and prison scenes and escape (beautiful storm shootout can be found here), meeting daughter again. Sabato should get a price for the most positive character in any SW. There were moments I expected him to knock on someoneās door and ask if the family wants to join Jehovasā witnesses. The score is uneven and so is the mood of the movie. It is lighthearted comedy at one moment and quite serious drama the next one. To sum it up, the movie that could not decide if it wanted to be a western for hardcore fans or more mainstrem audience ended up as a compromise for both. Question: Anyone has an idea if there was something behind the harmonica scene? Was it just Ireand did not want to remember his old days or did I miss something?
Just watched this movie for the first time - it has been a few years since I have bought a SW that I have not seen so I was pleasantly surprised that this movie was very watchable. Not top class but enjoyable and I like both Ireland and Sabato.
Agree with last comment Diamond that Ireland didnāt want to remember when he was young and carefree.
There is now a poll for this one on the original post at the top
Please note that the USA Warner Archive DVD runs only 91m and not 97m as stated. I own the Warner Archive DVD.
91m seems to be the length of the MGM English print since per the UK BBFC database, 91m was also the length of the print submitted to the UK censor by MGM in May 1968. The actual UK theatrical version was only 79m following additional distributor cuts per the Monthly Film Bulletin.
The Italian censor site records the original submission as 97m but I donāt know whether a print of this length exists anywhere or not.
thanks, I corrected it in the database
