Hello everyone. I’m Japanese, so I don’t know much about food, so I’d like to ask you a question. What do they eat in food scenes in movies? For example, what did Eli Wallach eat in “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly”? What bean dish did TRINITY eat? Also, please tell me about food scenes from movies that left an impression on you. Thank you.
If you’re writing a scene yourself for a movie and the food itself is unimportant, I think it’s fine to just write “He eats a plate of baked beans”, “gnaws on a leg of chicken”, “tears into the softest end of a stale piece of bread” etc. Not much time in a script would be devoted to food specifics (a novel on the other hand might go into more detail).
I personally like the food scenes the most where the food becomes part of the action. For example, (forgive me but I cannot remember which spaghetti it’s from) there is a scene where the protagonist orders a drink, starts sipping, and senses danger approaching. He then spills the drink out onto the table in front of him, which acts as a reflecting pool for him to see the villains closing in around him. Now that was a helpful beverage!
A can of Heinz, no doubt… perhaps it was ASDA’s Smartprice.
A ‘Dirty Harry’ hot dog/burger…my favourite fast food for a while after watching Clint munch his way through one in 1971…
“The usual lunch, or the usual dinner…?”
“What difference does it make?”
Such a classic scene!
I eventually gave up ordering them at my local cafe, because some asshole kept robbing the Supermarket next door, and I never got to finish them…
I like the scene in the Great Silence where one of the bounty hunters is eating a chicken leg and wiping hos hand on his fur coat while complaining how bad he feels.
And there is the scene in the coach at the beginning of Once upon a time the revolution where the upper class is eating, shown in close-ups. Very disturbing scene.
I recall that he’s also rubbing snot from his nose on his coat…not someone I would invite to dinner!
“Animals…”
I wonder if modern-day ‘Socialites’ (Shites) still speak about the rest of society’s ‘Plebeians’ in the same way?
Prison food…Scorsese style.
Not only a gangster’s version of ‘Ready, Steady, Cook’, but also accompanied by some very cool music…
Which cinema food scenes from films made an impression on you, amigo…apart from the SW’s that you mentioned?
Good ones have been mentioned already. I’ll list more.
Raf Baldassarre’s character who loves food in The Stranger’s Return was so goofy. I laughed so hard when Stranger joined him at the table and shot him
The dinner between Johnny Hamilton and Horace in Johnny Hamlet was very wholesome, in my opinion, and therefore I find it memorable. The dinner scene from Dead Men Don’t Count belongs in the same category (the scene where Johnny is visiting the girl and her family)
Trinity and Bambino eating the bird in Trinity Is Still My Name while having a staring contest is a great scene.
And finally, Angel Eyes and the other man eating in that menacing silence in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Thank you for your comment.
This is very interesting. I’ll check it out.
I’m sorry, I used translation software to ask my question, so I’m sure my meaning isn’t conveyed very well, but the meal scene that left the biggest impression on me is as I wrote in my first question.
Thank you for your comment. I didn’t notice that. Thank you.

I’m very sorry, but this question was specifically about Spaghetti Westerns. I’m sorry for not being able to answer your question after you kindly took the time to answer it.

Are you from the UK?
Is that chili con carne?
Thank you for your comment.
I’m Japanese, so I thought people overseas would have plenty of knowledge, and that’s why I asked. I’m sure the contents of the meal aren’t important in the story, but I was interested and asked.
