Seriously, why would Hellman approve some fandub project when Turner Classics is broadcasting remastered 2.35:1 print at the same time? Autephex, you know the site that has this version available. Go check the screenshots.
korano, I am curious to know where you heard this bit of information from. After doing a quick couple of google searches and checking the cultcine website, I am unable to find anything about Hellman buying or approving of the disc…
for the sake of argument, its not entirely impossible that he maybe couldn’t get a copy of the film anywhere despite it being shown on TCM, so he bought one from cultcine… not saying I think its true, but its possible I suppose
in my search i did find this article which mentions the following…
CHINA 9 LIBERTY 37 has been restored by Warner's, and has been distributed throughout the world.
http://calarts.edu/faculty_bios/filmvideo/faculty/montehellman/montehellman
This is his faculty bio from the California Institute of the Arts…
and holy SHIT … SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT III??? really? I had no idea…
Shocking, isn’t it? ![]()
I have not one but two NTSC tapes of that one. One day I’ll give the other one away as a present to someone who loves Ride in the Whirlwind and The Shooting. People are always shocked when they find out that SN,DN3 was his film.
Poor Hellman.
After that he produced Reservoir Dogs. Quite uneven career I’d say.
You can say that again…
I’m actually a pretty big fan of the first Silent Night Deadly Night, but never planned on paying any attention to the sequels… now I’m afraid I will have to. Any good?

It’s not necessarily an approve thing. Hellman received a copy of the film from them and took that as some sort of approval. Heard it from CultCine himself. Apparently, many directors buy from him there own films.

First SN,DN is one of the best 80s slashers. Punish! Naughty! ;D The first three films make the original trilogy. The second film has the original killer santa’s little brother as the killer. It’s mostly just 1 hour(!) of footage from the original film with few new scenes here and there, which makes a very boring film for those who have already seen the original. The third part doesn’t have any recycled footage but as a film it’s even worse. After that the series took a new direction. Yuzna’s SN,DN 4: The Initation is a supernatural horror, something like micro budged version of Halloween III. Yuzna hates the film but at least it’s better than previous two. SD,DN 5: The Toy Maker is a Puppet Mater rip-off and best of the series since original.
Are these film good? Certainly not, but fans very cheap Christmas horrors should check out the original and maybe also the last two parts.
Apparently, many directors buy from him there own films.Uh-huh. I wonder who these "many directors" are? Of course it's possible that Hellman has ordered a copy of C9,L37 from them but it's highly unlikely. It seems that strange coincidences surround Cultcine... fandubbing films that have already been fandubbed by other people, directors buying their own films from them when there is a legit version available...
I have a tough time believing that but it sure makes for good marketing strategy. I mean here you are on the fence whether you should buy something or not but hey the director bought it so I guess if it’s good enough for the director it’s good enough for me.
Yeah, I’m sorry but if the source of this info is Cultcine I do not believe a word of it… highly unlikely. Now I’m actually almost 100% sure that Cultcine is full of crap
If he actually told you that Warner refuses to restore the film, that in itself is a blatant lie as the restored film is featured on TCM and Hellman’s official faculty biography states clearly that Warner has restored the film
That’s why I never bothered with part 2, not interested in watching a bunch of flashbacks. I’ll just watch the original. Never looked into the other sequels because of part II

Maybe the time has come to blast away the bull (or cow):

or bullcow
He’s selling a copy of Death Rides a Horse. Now I imagine that is the UK or Australian(if there is one) MGM release. All he probably did was convert the PAL version to NTSC…I wonder how MGM would feel about that. I doubt they’d be happy about it.
I guess it could be the Japanese one also…not that that’s any better.
He’s out of town so he probably won’t reply until after the 8th of October.
lol i kind of feel sorry for the guy, coming back to all this
I think this should be stopped and he should be given a chance to explain himself.
We’ll be here!
looking forward to it
So have you guys noticed his latest releases? Two sets of the Japanese director Yoshida…I’ve downloaded almost every one of these films. Each one had custom English subs added and 3 different people have released at least one of these…not just one person. So he can’t claim it’s his work.
Also am I supposed to believe that this guy speaks Italian and Japanese and he’s doing all this work himself? LOL! This guy is the worst piece of garbage there is in this game…does no work himself…contributes nothing…sells the work of people who actually do the custom subs/audio and sells legitimate retail releases.

Sorry for OT, this is my first and last post in this topic. I think it is not so difficult about Yoshida movies if you have 100EUR or so. Get two French boxset of his movies, rip the content, rip the subtitles, translate from French to English and here you are!
