Just finished watching this Mexican Spaghetti and found another new favorite in the genre. The lead character is a real outlaw type, killing and robbing in scene after scene. I’m sure there are some, but I can’t really think of any spaghetti lead-characters that compare in this aspect… although they may be anti-heros, they are still essentially good guys. But there is a story as to why Cullen Baker is a bad man, and he isn’t totally void of good- one scene where he berates a banker for “legally robbing” a widow of her ranch property is really great, where he exclaims that he cannot abide by robbery on the side of the law. Constant pacing with a bleak ending.
Ha, this character is unbelievable. He pretty much shoots everyone to pieces! The structure is very episodic and not so much plot driven, but Rodolfo de Anda really makes it his thing. Plenty of brutal violence.
Will give it a review within a few days.
One thing spoilers:
When Cullen shoots the sheriff some guys have him at gunpoint with shotguns from a rooftop, but he just rides away.
I noticed this also while watching and was wondering about this. I didn’t check back to see, but thought maybe it was a quick flashback and those guys weren’t actually there, since there are a lot of flashbacks throughout the movie
It all sounds and looks right for the hardcore SW fan, but the execution is so lousy and lackluster making the film a hopelessly average affair in the end. The plot barely exists, however the seasoned viewers won’t have a hard time guessing a few things here and there… not that there is much to guess anyway… All in all, not a film you should go out of your way to watch or search for.
