Crazy Bunch / Di Tresette ce n'e uno / Carnimeo 73

Weisser has this under its German title Dick Luft in Sacramento and doesn’t twig that it is a sequel to the first Tresette film. He says Dick Luft is a hapless wannabe gunfighter and Valerno is his sidekick! Sure this isn’t correct but I’ll find out when I watch the German DVD which has an English track.

In his review of the first film, Weisser states that Hilton is called Tresette and Sal Borgese’s character is ‘Tricky Dick’. And that Cris Huerta plays ‘McPherson’ the banker (McPiedish in the English dub).

I understand Weisser won’t have seen many of these films as book finished in 1991 when only VHS and no internet but how he can make so many errors of fact on who is playing who and getting plots completely wrong is beyond me. His original sources surely won’t have these errors.

Just started to watch this. OMG this film is insane, especially the section in the insane asylum. The English dub is full of contemporary satirical comments (references to the energy crisis, in like Flynn) as well as loads of gay slurs carried over from the first film. Makes the second Providence movie seem like a straight western. Have to watch it in two sessions.

Second half not as good as the first half with the momentum lost after they left the asylum. Last 10-15m was rather boring consisting of an endless fight. The KKK section was incredibly tasteless and must have been so even in 1974. Reviews of this film on various sites seem to have missed this entirely and not spotted that ‘politicians’ clearly didn’t fit the visuals.

I have the German DVD which has German, Italian and English soundtracks which at least allowed me to check out what was going on in the English dub.

Frisco Joe (It) = Frutti Tutti (Eng)

Frank Faina (‘Flour’) alias Slim Pop Corn (It) vs Frank the Fairy alias Slim Proportions (Eng)

In Italian there is the Klu Klux Klan who are hunting blacks (was this considered funny in Italy - were we really supposed to laugh at a blackfaced scarecrow dangling from a noose or Twinkletoes being chased by the KKK because he has black paint on his face?) but this has been redubbed in English to remove reference to the Klan and their leader is called ‘The Grand Spool’. Instead, these hooded Spools are after ‘Politicians’. In English, Tricky tells Twinkletoes that the KKK think he is a ‘politician’ but in Italian Tricky uses ‘mulatto’ (i.e., mixed-race).

Dear oh Dear.
