Comics & Graphic Novels

Thanks, John! It’s gone so well that it’s essentially turned into a full-time job this week. If anyone ever needs Kickstarter advice, I’ve got plenty to give now and would be glad to share.

Anybody get ?

The plot

Written by Michael Alan Nelson. Art by Christian Dibari. You’ve never seen the Old West like this before! Ex-slave and former Union soldier Cole has spent the years after the Civil War building a reputation as the most fearsome bounty hunter in the land. But when the tables turn and a bounty is placed on Cole’s head, all hell breaks loose. Finding himself unable to protect the thing most precious to him - his family - Cole goes on a rampage of revenge, leaving a trail of blood and wreckage in his wake. With nothing but his horse, his one surviving son, and his gun, Cole’s vengeful journey leaves no stone unturned and no culprit living!

Cool artwork !

Really wish someone would translate more Blueberry into English !!!

The old Epic/Marvel trades are really expensive !!!

There are scanlations of those available if you know where to look, Frank. Those are the only likely option because Giraud/Moebius’ wife has denied licenses for English reprints.

Did anyone else pick up “Kellerman / L’Amour” on Free Comic Book Day? It has some lovely artwork by Thomas Yeates. Comic Book Resources had a previewhttp://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=preview&id=15310. I’m not sure where the rest of the story will be found, though. Published by Random House?

I’ve already pre-ordered Law of the Desert Born; didn’t know about this one. Thanks for the heads up, Cat.

I like to wait till they lump them together in books.

Me too - I have two old Hodder Dargaud translations that now cost upwards £40 these days to buy. It’s a great shame no one is allowed to translate Blueberry into English at the moment.

Pale Horse-The plot isn’t something new but I will give it a chance in my monthly subscription.

Blueberry-I love that character and in my country has published only seven albums of the title.I own all of them and I hope to see a new album.Unfortunately it’s a bit difficult. In Greece nobody reads a western comic for now.

Frank Castle I see you read Deathstroke. How do you find the new title DC has on the way?Personally I think the title had problems from the time Rob Liefield involved. The Lobo story arc was really bad.

Pale Horse I enjoyed…

Like I would pay good money to get more Blueberry in English , real shame that one of Europe’s biggest comic characters can’t be translated for us English (shameful I know) only readers

Like this looks soooo good !!

It looks good, but it isn’t that good. Blueberry stopped being good in the mid 70s.

Very well drawn though, but even that was more inspired in the 60s.

I would still love to read it though, no where near enough English language western comics

Although I did read this Black and white web comic today

Quite good …

There is another western comic from the 70s which is even better then Blueberry. It is called Comanche.

I’ve got that Western Gothic somewhere.

Agreed. This is very good series, my favorite western comic along with some italian stuff: Ken Parker and Storia del West. Artwork isn’t as good as in Blueberry but the stories and the characters are more realistic and appealing.

I think it is equally good as in Blueberry. And both are superior to most of the other stuff done in the 60s and 70s. Giraud and Hermann were the best then in the comic scene from France and Belgium.

Is this what you mean ?

Yes.

Never saw this cover before.

I just remembered we talked about this before. Here are again 2 links which show you the cover art of the original albums and some pages of each:

Albums 3 to 7 and 9 are excellent. # 1 and # 2 are also recommended. # 7 is good and # 10 is ok. 5 more albums from the 80s and 90s drawn by another artist are all weak.

Thanks have been trying to get this , noooo luck am afraid Thanks for the links though…

Got this recently ?

Really gritty off beat western tales, recommended , not all the stories are alike so there is something here for everyone

Oh, btw, there was also a SW influenced western comic in Europe in the 80s. It is called Durango (written and drawn by Yves Swolfs), and it is very violent, very bloody. The first album was a retelling of Il grande silenzio, with the character’s looks resembling those of the films, but this time with Kinski losing. The hero looks like Trintingant, only that he isn’t mute.

But I did not like the stiff drawings, and I did not like the stories either. For me it was a dull comic, but it had some success, and is now reprinted in Germany.
