Just watched this. Fat bag of bumhole-leavings, imho. However, I’m now watching Tremors 2 and the degree to which Challenge to White Fang was rubbish is actually serving to make me more appreciative of this movie. So, perhaps films that bad DO serve a purpose.
An average movie not excellent…
Return of White Fang has been updated to the new layout (3.0). Let us know if you can add anything: pictures, posters, trivia, facts, figures, links, etc…
One needs to watch the original before seeing this sequel as it is a direct follow on with several of the same characters (although not all of them are played by the same people). Also references events in the first film. Its quite like a western, more so than the first film, as it has a comedy saloon brawl.
German Blu Ray has an English track but no English subtitles. Italian/German audio and subtitles. Interview with Franco Nero that I haven’t checked out yet.
This is the only proper sequel to the 1973 White Fang. Other White Fang movies are different stories with different characters so a bit like the fake Django and Sartana follow-ups.
There is an error on the DVD section in the database as neither of the films in this double-bill are this movie. White Fang to the Rescue is a different movie to Challenge to White Fang.
It has the same strengths as White Fang; action, camerawork and locations. The best thing in it is Steiner, who is truly evil, killing a child in the opening scenes.
I liked the Fulci trademark gore shot at the end when the bloke gets run over by the sleigh. The prior sleigh race was very Ben Hur-esque.
The killing of the Native Canadian boy is quite interesting. According to an interview with the actress in 2014, she was asked to play the boy again but her dad refused. So instead they killed the child off (played by a different actor I believe) and they replaced her with a white kid. Obviously they thought a white kid would appeal more to their audience.
Steiner is pretty entertaining, especially when he steps out of his wheelchair and smirks at his accomplices. He has another ambiguous death scene so possibly they were thinking of a third movie. I was half expecting him to appear Jason-like at the end of the film for one last effort.
@Bill_san_Antonio has corrected this, thanks for pointing it out!
