I would order Companeros despite the poor reviews except for the good chance it will receive a better release, probably out of Germany and I am just a poor schmuck that shouldnāt be buying movies anyway, let alone double copies.
Talk from American distros about not getting support kinda pisses me off⦠iāll support you when your releases catch up with the rest of the world.
In the meantime, I have no problem buying from overseas and frankly do not care if spags become more available in the US at the cost of lowered standards for duplicate releases on titles that arenāt even bringing anything new to the table
It is still the 178 min version (including the cave scene), but now with the original mono audio instead of a downmix of the faked 5.1. sound. The new scenes are also in mono, probably still the downmix, but even that was altered so that it sounds better than before. I have read that they made e.g. Tucos voice sound deeper, so that the difference to his old voice is less obvious.
Lossless means that it is the full sound spectrum, while a lossy audio means that the audio is compressed so much that some parts are lost. If one is able to hear the difference is another question. But it is not the best possible quality.
I assume the Blu will still contain also the 5.1. audio.
Alright, thanks guys! ;D
I am more interested in ārelativeā picture quality as opposed to āabsoluteā picture quality.
Maybe the picture quality stinks compared to a modern day transfer like the Hobbit movies but if it is still a monumental upgrade over the dvd than I would still get it.
The problem with these reviews is that alot of the time they donāt mention the level of improvement over the dvd. I think the whole reason why we switched to Blu Ray in the first place was that we wanted to see a big difference.
I agree with you there, except for that if there is or going to be a better looking release, Iād rather just get the better one⦠and BUās spaghetti blus have consistently shown the same problems which are always beat out by other releases⦠and the mistakes are easy to fix, but for some reason they just keep doing it with each release.
Nothing to do with modern day films really, talking only spaghs released on blu ray in other countries like Germany, Italy or elsewhere, and they look much betterā¦
Not asking for it to look like The Hobbit, just donāt screw the transfer up with unrequired filtering.
So far the best US blu ray releases seem to be the cheap ones, because they are so cheap that they donāt do anything to the transfer which is ideal.
And I would be more forgiving if it was a rarer title that really needs a release, but this is just another one that is in no short supply, and will undoubtedly surface soon by other distrosā¦
Well, maybe Iām wrong about that. I thought Companeros already had more good DVD releases than it does, but just had a look and I was wrong⦠so perhaps it wonāt see any other blu releases so soon
Still, I get super annoyed with distributors whining about their low sales because of their mistakes, like its the fault of the fan
After so many years watching really crappy VHS rips of anything hard to find, I sometimes think itās a bless to have something just slight better.
AnywyaI just wonder when a above average SW will have the Criterion treatment. Making BR realeases without improving them, is just a waste o time IMO. Just the same like when they start realeasing CD editions of already existing vinyl records, most sounded like if they were coming from the end of a cave, thatās why I kept my vinyl set.
Sure, its a blessing to improve upon a VHS, but the old Companeros DVD is hardly a VHS rip
I mean if we want to compare this blu ray to an old VHS we can, but it seems like a not very useful argument and more of an excuse without weight
Hell, I am still regularly watching and seeking out shitty VHS recordings and tapes⦠but I havenāt watched Companeros in poor quality since I started watching spaghs
Its just a big wasted opportunityā¦
I was going to do some screenshot comparisons, turns out I already sold my Companeros DVD a while back planning on definitely buying this Blue Undergound blu ray
But I did find some screenshots from the dvd on the web which match up mostly:
[/URL]Viewing these screenshots fullsized in their own tabs, i am not too impressedā¦
Blue Underground are going to release Man, Pride and Vengeance on BD & DVD on March 24.
And then start to complain that nobodyās buying it ![]()
hahaā¦
Itās even funnier cause you know itās gonna happen. Hahahaā¦hahaā¦haā¦cries at the slowly degrading quality of BU spag releases
I have never seen this one, Luigi Bazzoniās westerns are usually pretty weak but this one is supposed to be pretty decent right? It has Franco Nero and all which helps. Also I would think the PQ would be pretty good seeing as Kochās release has gotten good reviews and I am sure BU will be working from the same master.
Well, if you look over the DB entry, itās not a western
It was just marketed as one and from BUās cover for it it looks kind of like one there too.
Not a western :o I just read over the write up, wow a take on the opera/novel Carmen. Sounds like a good flick though.
Oh and I see I also got my Luigiās mixed up ;D Luigi Batzella was the director I was thinking of that directed some pretty poor westerns, Luigi Bazzoni actually has a small but pretty solid filmography.
I like the film, may buy the blu except I still want the koch boxset which includes it, so dunno
will we ever see days where stuff is released which hasnāt already been? Pretty boring to keep seeing the same titles
