Update: Image Ent. Region A Blu ray of My Name is Nobody is being marketed as â40th Anniversary Editionâ. I doubt there would be any extras though.
i canât wait!! ;D
There is rumors of a remastered TGTBATU coming from MGM. Blu-ray Forum
Nice. Letâs hope so. Criterion sounds promising if that rumour is true.
Criterion release would be pretty cool. Glad I held out on buying any of the Leones on bluray
I didnât hold out but certainly hope there is an upgrade.
yea that mgm disc is a disgrace. i just checked out the studio canal blurays of the dollar movies, that is some really great stuff⌠someone should give TGTBATU at least the same treatment, if not even better
Anyone seen any screenshots or comments (from someone who actually knows what they are talking about) about the quality of the new German They Call Me Trinity Blu-Ray?
Amazon.de has several HD/SD comparisonshttp://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00EDMGEMY from 3L but not only are they are not in high resolution but the HD pictures look fucking horrible. Sure the SD images are even worse but the comparison to me looks like a one between a shitty DVD and somewhat better but way too filtered DVD. In fact it looks like a comparison between the old German DVD vs the newer anamorphic discs (around the world) just upscaled and filtered.
If it were some other company I wouldnât slit my wrists yet but 3Ls Trinity sequel Blu-Ray has some scenes in it that are simply upscaled (bad) DVD quality. I donât claim they are in fact from a DVD but it is possible. And not only that but the very first example, on the video of the restoration they supposedly did, actually has much more detail on the crap SD source than what their â18 month restorationâ has. The restoration has absolutely no HD detail in it at all (in that scene) and the existing anamorphic widescreen discs look just as good (or actually bad in this case) on that particular scene (in the beginning, Bud turning around in the desert holding his saddle on his back).
EDIT: Just want to add that 3L has released some other Bud Spencer movies on Blu-Ray in very good quality (based on the screenshots I have seen) so it is not like they always suck.
sorry I dont own them myself (yet)
got a blue ray but it is always better to watch western movies using older technology since the movies are old.
that makes no sense
Forget bluray, get one of these!
Iâm not a HD fiend either - with my Westerns i donât mind some print scratches and/or crackle on the soundtrack - though I like a sharp picture as well. Code Red DVDs releases (OK not westerns) get this balance right. I do love Blu Rays when done right as sometimes scenes can look phenomenal - though this is not usually very consistent throughout the older movies.
again this debate. donât confuse picture quality with resolution. bluray fits a higher resolution, which is still below the physical resolution a 35mm print allows for, but first of all that doesnât say anything about the quality of the material. the quality comes in when it comes to actually noticing the flaws of the material, which can become more apparent if the picture is in higher resolution. however, to repeat myself: you can have a shitty source material on bluray and then you didnt win anything, or you have great material and have it on DVD only. in the first case itâs a shame there wasnât more restoration gone into it, in the second case itâs a shame because you know it looks great, but it will look shitty the bigger your screenâŚ

Sebastian hit it right on the head. When done right, old movies can improve so much in HD.
If you were going to watch these films using old technology, youâd need a 35mm projector in your home and film. Most of us canât afford or accomodate that. In the meantime, even though it is admittedly not as good as 35mm, blu ray comes closer than anything else in approximating these films in their original form and is easier to store and does not wear out.
