u think it will be better?
Quite possibly.
I hope Grindhouse actually releases it this year. Iām still waiting for them to release "Roma a Mano Armata/The Tough Ones :-\
Doesnāt Grindhouse Releasing take forever to release anything? :-
I read they will also re-release the film they put-out on dvd, but that apparently will happen in late 2014!!!
Hereās a bit of info.
Received the new French The Big Gundown disc today. It has two versions of the film, the French (and US?) theatrical version (90minutes) with Italian, French and English audio tracks, and the longer Italian version only in Italian with French subtitles.
(not my image)
The long version looks different than the Explosive Media release but⦠As I have mentioned the Explosive Media disc looks like an older master (but is it) to me with some sharpening (with associated artifacts) added in but something about the Wild Side disc version bothers me⦠too much grain filtered making it too soft, waxy? I donāt know.
The shorter version on the French disc is superior in picture quality compared to the other two. This one has the Columbia Pictures logos&credits at the beginning so Iām thinking it is Sonyās print, perhaps the recently restored one (but I thought they had the longer version in theaters as a Sony restoration??). If you canāt read the filename the following screenshots are the short version at top, longer Wild Side version middle and the Explosive Media disc at bottom.

Two more shots here Colorado (The Big Gundown) Blu-Ray + DVD + Book | A Fistful of DVDs
And as you can see the colors are different between all three versions.
Oh and only now do I realize Explosive Media has cut a piece of the film away. Cuchilloās smirk after the duel is simply gone (have to admit I canāt remember if it was present on both versions on the French disc⦠all these versions make me confusedā¦). Then again looking at the time codes of my screenshots maybe there are more differences to be found or (Iād say more likely) my player just gave the time codes incorrectly.
EDIT: OH MY GOD IT IS EXPLOSIVE MEDIA AND NOT KOCH. Maybe I should get some sleepā¦
thanks! very interestingā¦
Did you even notice I just talked about Koch even though they were not the ones behind the German disc⦠:o >:( Too tired to fix the filenames nowā¦
sloppy there! haha
Shame on you, Sundance ;D
Bah, nobody would have noticed anything if I hadnāt mentioned it.
someone on facebook commented something about that scene missing, sundance. did u see that comment
I read it now that you mentioned it. Iāll check the DVD myself soon but I looked over that particular piece of the film several times yesterday from the Explosive Media Blu and the scene (well its more like a 3 second shotā¦) is not there (at least not where it should be⦠:P) . And about an hour ago I checked the Wild Side versions and both of them have it.
EDIT: The Explosive Media DVD has the scene although going by memory it looks few frames shorter than the ones on the Wild Side disc. I think the scene is there (on the DVD) because it is just a copy (not 1:1 as far as compression and other stuff goes I think) of the Koch Media disc (but Koch released two different discs so I donāt know about the differences between those).
There is a poster at the blu-ray com who mentions the scene and issues with it, from [url]Blu-ray Forum - View Single Post - The Big Gundown (Sergio Solima/Lee Van Cleef) - October 12,2012 :
does it still have the flaring issue? This is the shot Iām referring to, taken from the Japanese DVD of the US cut (notice the red at the top of the frame):
The German Koch DVD just flat out cut the frames that were damaged, and slowed down the footage before it.
Looky here.
Thats a mixed bag selection.
Yeah that is a mixed bag above. I will be picking it up though. I actually have not seen any of those 4 films so I am looking forward to checking them out.
Iāve already got those four titles on Shout Factory DVD but feel they are worth the upgrade, Iāll be getting rid of my Rio Conchos / Take A Hard Ride DVD but will keep the others as they have other films on them, notably the excellent Skyriders.
Not sure if this was already mentioned but My Name is Nobody is coming to region A blu ray by Image Ent.
Image Entās DVD release lacked any extras and had average PQ so my expectations are modest for this one:

Iāve already got the French one, looks fantastic but unfortunately there are burnt in French subs when you watch it in English.
