Here we have several good SW titles being released on blu-ray in Japan, and that gets no interest, while Django vs Zombies is the hot topic of the day? That makes no sense.
Please, anybody, when you have any reviews of the new japanese releases, please do post them.
thanks! the reason is probably, that not so many people here are active readers of the japanese parts of the internet
Have you not seen this thread Seb?
Well the packaging looks spectacular! Pity the picture quality of the discs (as reported on other thread) doesn’t match up, think I’ll stick with my Japanese DVDs for the time being.
As was posted on the other thread, it seems I rather misrepresented the state of affairs for the Day of Anger BD :-[ :

I asked a friend of mine who understands some Japanese and according to him (the review says that) the disc has an alternative (cut) version included which is in DVD quality (and the bars are in that one).

Your friend is entirely correct! I am so sorry for the misinformation :-[. My knowledge of Japanese is woefully inadequate and I did not read the post properly at all :-.
The technical specs say that it includes under the special features the American version of 83 minutes with English audio in a 4:3 letterbox aspect ratio.
My best translation of the part of the post in question is:
However, the unfortunate thing is that while the main feature is 1080i quality, the American release version has ordinary image quality like a DVD. Black bars appear on the side of the picture and it’s a bit of a shame. If possible I would have liked for this one also to be sold at 1080i quality.

Sorry, no idea about the Dutch disc except I would think it (and all the other discs around) is based on the same source the Blue Underground disc was/is.
DVDBeaver has a comparison up with the BU disc and the recent UK disc and for my eyes the UK disc is worse. I am one of those who thinks the “grain” in the BU disc is very likely mostly just noise from a shitty scanner (as is the case with most[?] of the BU & Arrow BRs of Italian movies), but it does appear quite good otherwise. The UK disc on the other hand just looks like they filtered away the noise making the image worse (the screenshots with lots of sky look very bad but maybe beaver didnt save them in good enough quality) and then there is the shittier colors (whatever the reason for those).

Hm, I am not very sure. I think that there is a major grain level on the Argent BluRay as well. But I don’t have the US disc for a personal comparison. Or: I think there are different levels of grain throughout the film. But it is a good watch - I like it. I prepare a review in a couple of days…
There is a major discussion about the grain level and the supposedly shitty scan. I was a bit confused but decided to recommend the disc due to the fact that our target group is spaghetti western fans more that high definition pros. And I say in the review that it is not the best disc. So, I am honest. and I really would recommend the BluRay because it IS watchable.
I have a question about the German Big Gundown Blu Ray, are the special features english friendly? My bday is next month and I think I will finally take the plunge on this one.
