In the recent Indicator sale, orders over a certain amount came with 6 teaser postcards of upcoming releases. The Big Gundown seems to be one of them:

Wow! That is great news

Interesting. I wonder what dates?

I’m pretty happy with the Grindhouse Releasing Blu Ray, but I might double dip as I really love the film and as long as Indicator includes the full uncut version with translated subtitles.

This release will have to go a long way to outdo the one from Grindhouse which is truly a phenomenal release. If they manage to pull it off though, I will be more than happy to plop down the bucks.

Hopefully they offer a full English cut with subs for added Italian scenes. Which Grindhouse failed to do.

P.S The Bullfighter and the Lady is a pretty good film. Gilbert Rowland

I was just gonna say, there is a way to top that edition, never made sense to me splitting the version apart…

Yep they really blew it.

That would be an improvement worth the purchase, provided all the other areas are up to expectation, no doubt.

I think that an extended version of the English language cut would be more preferable.
The Italian cut also has many bits of extra dialogue, which spoils the flow but the English version also desperately needs the longer riding scenes and duels.

What’s wrong with the English version on the uncut German edition?

Nothing. We’re talking about GR’s release

We have to remember too that quite a few scenes didn’t make it into the US cut and are only in Italian, and some of these are quite important in showing Corbett’s honor and morality, revealing Brokston’s two faced nature, and certain aspects of corruption. I know many SW fans aren’t fans of subtitles here, but in the case The Big Gundown there will be scenes in the uncut version that will go from English to Italian, sometimes every couple of lines because the first 20 minutes or so, especially the opening and when Corbett first meets Brokston, those scenes were bizarrely edited, almost butchered I might say, and the switch between Italian and English might feel very rapid to some.

I’m mentioning this because I have this feeling that trying to present The Big Gundown the way Anchor Bay and Blue Underground presented Companeros might be a lot work to make everything sync properly together with that bizarre bad editing of the first 20 minutes. I honestly prefer the Italian language over the English dub any way as I find it more engaging, but that’s my opinion.

We have to remember that in English speaking countries this was put out as a ā€˜B’ movie … the distributors probably didn’t even see it before buying the rights … and just wanted something under 90 minutes to fill a double bill program - Seems like heresy now to we the fans - but these films were considered of very little importance in their day

Regarding subtitle inserts … it seems a bit silly to cut back and forth during an entire sequence, though I’ve done this myself, having made many fandub creations. I think in the case of TBG, we want to hear LVC’s unique voice … at least I do! But I agree that watching the Italian language version without interruptions is probably the best option.

BTW … there is a mistake in the Franco Cleef dub, when the two red haired henchmen arrive at the wedding party … one piece of dialogue has been synced onto the wrong character’s lip movements … just putting this out there, in case the powers that be are thinking of using this existing audio edit without checking it for errors.

I am not big on rumors but I updated the info on the Koch Films Hellbenders in the database with all we know, and we may only be hours or days away from an official announcement I believe…
