The main point here is that Cultcines DVD-R is the best english friendly release yet. I have bought it and its a big leap from Franco Cleefs release, which I also own.
Actually Autophex’s DVDR is the best and cultcine just stole it from him and started selling it as if it was his own work.

“Knowing” autophex, I am pretty sure that I can say that he will give you a definitive no and tell you to download it or get it in a trade from someone…
Curious (as I’m reviewing a few Cultcine’s and talking to Jay at Cultcine)… do you know this for certain?
Check out the Cultcine thread a lot of people are not too happy about this Cultcine guy, to say the least!
It’s too bad you paid money for the dvd since the guy who actually made the custom disk offered it to everyone for free. You are right though…it’s definitely the best version available. However it’s not the Cultcine dvd it’s the Autephex dvd.

I sent him my French DVD, with superb video quality, and he’ll be adding English audio to it
Actually, he PM’ed me some time ago that the work was (nearly) finished, but haven’t heard anything from him since then
The custom disc will be made available for free, as far as I’m concerned. At least I don’t want anything for it.

I’ve never heard the English dub on this one, but seeing as the main actors are French, I’d probably rather have this one with French audio anyway. Not that I’m trying to slight Autephex’s work of course… his Big Gundown DVD sounds great.
I saw The Specialists in cinema once, in English, and I remember the English dub was superior to the French one
Remarkable if you know the film was also mainly shot in French (I don’t think Halliday spoke English in those days, I remember an interview by a British or American reporter (I think from around 1980) in which he had trouble expressing himself. Only few people spoke English in the Latin countries in those days. In Italy it only became popular to study English under Berlusconi (yes, he did some good things). I know Castellari and Corbucci spoke English, but they were exceptions. Most of them spoke French, though

Yes, Giusti says the film was shot in French (most of them were French actually, and Corbucci spoke French, it’s also in the first place a French production). I’m pretty sure we hear Halliday’s voice in the French version, this is the way he speaks: not very loud, a bit between his teeth. I don’t remember how he (or his voice actor) sounds in the English version (I saw it long time ago), but I remember dialogue was a bit more ‘witty’, more genuine Corbucci. The French dialogue is a bit flat.

I remember thinking Halliday’s voice sounded pretty apt - ‘a bit between his teeth’ as you describe it. Interesting that the English dialogue seemed more witty to you. Would be interesting to compare the two. English subs from the English audio while listening to the French audio track might make for a fun comparison!
Man, I’ve got to get a copy of that Giusti book. I’m still waiting until I have a few things I want from Italy and then will order them all in one go.

Have just been reading in Giusti that Pino Locchi dubbed Milian in Italian for all three Sollima SWs. I guess it was only after he used his own voice in Tepepa that he insisted on dubbing himself in Italian as well.
