Beloe solntse pustyni (The White Sun of the Desert)

Russia, 1970
A relatively famous title… but hell, I just wanna read some more opinions (this being my 2nd fav Russian movie after The 12 Chairs)

Never heard of it. Who is the director?

The Motyl film it’s a very good one, but I don’t know if it can be called a SW in pure technical terms of what’s considered a SW, but believe me, it’s a western, a Russian one, it ownes a lot in visual terms to the Leone’s SW, that the director surelly saw, but also to the the more classic american western in terms of storyline.
I also put in the same category the 1974 film from Nikita Mikhalkov ( the one of Burnt by the Sun fame) Svoy sredi chuzhikh, chuzhoy sredi svoikh or Friend Among Strangers, Stranger Among Friends, which I think it’s even a better film.

People who’ve seen it seem to love it a lot, but i thought it was just ok, far from the masterpiece some say it is. Svoy sredi chuzhikh, chuzhoy sredi svoikh is better i agree, but i found it rather messy at times.
