Has anyone seen this yet? I must admit to getting antsy waiting for it!
I will probably see it on DVD. Check over at the last western thread. A couple pages back, I think someone saw it. Maybe it was Acehigh.
Just saw this at the local dollar house. It was alright. Definitely American. Enough violence to keep things interesting, although it is fairly talky, and sticks to a love story type subplot. Tries to achieve a deeper level with the story, but never quite goes deep enough into any thoughts or character development to quite reach thereā¦ Unfortunately, this makes the movie drag a bit in places for me, with the occasional violent outbursts being quite welcomed, and quite well-done.
Sticks too much to classic American structures and ideals for my liking. And the plot feels way too similar to 3:10 to Yuma, the last American western to come out recently- with all the prisoner transporting, run-in with the Indians, etcā¦
Soundtrack is not noticeable.
All said, I give it a decent enough to subject your lady friend to if you absolutely must subject your lady friend to your western viewing.
Donāt see myself hurrying to get a hold of this one, or rewatch. With The Proposition, Dust, and Sukiyaki Western Django, the Americans are leaving us with nothing too impressive in modern day westerns so far.
Beautiful, gritty and touching period piece, with a great Ed Harris, as the role requires, an even better Viggo Mortensen, and a Renee Zellweger that had better not been in the movie, but overall, great movie. The western aināt dead, fellersā¦ keep on making 'em

Has anyone seen āAppaloosaā with Ed Harris and Viggo Mortenson? Thought this actually pretty good compared to the recent westerns theyāve put outā¦
This one was mentioned in a thread some time agoā¦ I watched the trailer and thought it was very interesting. Since then Iāve benn waiting for a German releaseā¦ cinema or DVD, I donāt careā¦
I thought it was good but it lacked any elements mystery, which made it dull for me
A homage to traditional Westerns that doesnāt play like a homage, largely because of the humanity of the characters and the excellent performances. Iām not crazy about Renee Zellweger but generally I found this very satisfying.

Like pointed out already I would not have had the love interest. Pleased with the other cast from top to down, and sort of expected Ed Harris to be the hard edged character he is. May have been my copy of the film, but thought some of the gunshots sounded a little on the false side. Disliked the song at the end of the film, and the score was standard. Would have liked a little more violence, but the relationship between the two male leads kept me interested in the film. Confident direction by Harris and his passion for the western genre shines through.
Good film but not as good as my last favourite U.S western Open Range.

Yeah I agree with everything you said, the gunshots didnāt pack much punch.
Need to give this one another shot and see if my opinion changes at all, been a good amount of time since the first viewing with high expectations
I like it a great deal. I find that I like it a bit better each time I see it.
Not trying to go off-topic; but, I find the opposite is true for the remake of 3:10 TO YUMA.
I started off really liking that film, but the more I have seen itā¦the more I am underwhelmed!

I just watched this one again. Very traditional western in many ways and maybe the best one from 2000ās. Ed Harris has a great face for western and also great understanding of the genre.
