Cool photo. I wonder where it took place and under what circumstances? Maybe Leone was visiting a set on one of the many westerns Steffen did, maybe even directed a scene or two

I wish arrow or someone made a collection of his films on blu-ray… I have never watched a single one of his films since they are only available on DVD for the most part.

I strongly recommend that you pick up Sergio Garrone’s DJANGO THE BASTARD, there is a very nice Blu-ray of that one released on Synapse. It is definitely one of the best Steffen films.

I’m a big fan of Dead Men Don’t Count which has a nice German blu ray

Anthony Steffen has moved up alongside Franco Nero as my favourite Spaghetti actor, while it’s true some of the prints of his fliks aren’t great, the Blu Ray of Django the Bastard is excellent…
No Room to Die is another great flik from Steffen and Director Sergio Garrone…
I was surprised how much I enjoyed Arizona Colt Returns too (prefer it to Gemma’s original TBH!!)

I have never watched a Steffen flick that I didn’t enjoy actually. No Room To Die and Django the Bastard are my two favorites but there’s many more that I come back to and enjoy.

So, they have to be on Blu-ray in order for you to watch them? The DVDs of Steffen’s films have excellent transfers.

Yes. No such thing as a good 480p transfer imo, I’m too used to good detailed image quality to go back to something that’s lacking fidelity.

Thanks to the rarity of some spags, I’m used to watching films in VHS quality. For example I can’t imagine watching a copy of Hate is my God which isn’t a TV/VHS rip. Maybe the blu-ray will come out by the time we’re all in zimmer frames…

Yeah, but that doesn’t change the fact that they’re almost unwatchable for those used to good image quality… besides, in 2024, the ones that don’t have a bluray yet are usually the crappier ones (with some exceptions like the ruthless four). Arrow practically saved the sartana films from remaining in crappy dvd quality for eternity, why not save steffen’s films?

Didn’t you just basically say that it’s crap if it’s not on blu ray by 2024?

A good film is a good film, even on a full screen pan & scan VHS tape.
GBU was on such a tape (which was my only chance to watch it for some years) the same masterpiece as it is now on a Blu. No, I don’t need HD to appreciate films. But of course prefer to have them as good as possible.

There’s plenty of goodies left to make it to blu-ray or even DVD! Too many to mention but for example DEAD MEN RIDE, RUTHLESS FOUR, JOHN THE BASTARD, GO WITH GOD GRINGO, $1000 ON THE BLACK, BLINDMAN, SONORA, KILLER KID, SONNY & JED, TASTE OF KILLING, SHOOT GRINGO SHOOT etc…

Imagine avoiding this film for years just because there’s no 1080p version. No way, it’s just too good

Also, many of us have been fans of the genre for goodness knows how many years. As a consequence, we only first encountered these films on TV or videotape, because no other formats (DVD, BD etc) existed. Little did we know that other more up to date formats would keep being introduced.

In other words, a lot of SW fans - myself included - fell in love with these films even when they were released on what we would now regard as ‘poor quality’…

Google the definitions of “usually” and “exceptions” :stuck_out_tongue:

There actually is a 1080p webrip version of blindman, just no bluray… very odd. The scans exist, it was just never released.

I don’t need HD to appreciate films, but I need it to enjoy them… As I said I’m too used to good image quality to go back, when these films were shown in theaters the quality was good, it’s the way they are intended to be seen and the closest to that is a good bluray scan.

I know perfectly well what it means, but it’s bold to suggest that there’s a “few exceptions” and what’s not out already is “usually the crappier ones”. In an environment of enthusiasts and fans that would track down what ever raw VHS scan of a beat up TV-print with splices all over in a foreign language just to get to see a specific movie they’ve been reading or hearing about, and finding diamonds in the rough, no matter if was a Sartana film 15 years ago or some other unreleased film today.
