By coincidence W Django was on Spanish TV this moning.
Cool photo. I wonder where it took place and under what circumstances? Maybe Leone was visiting a set on one of the many westerns Steffen did, maybe even directed a scene or two
I wish arrow or someone made a collection of his films on blu-ray⌠I have never watched a single one of his films since they are only available on DVD for the most part.
I strongly recommend that you pick up Sergio Garroneâs DJANGO THE BASTARD, there is a very nice Blu-ray of that one released on Synapse. It is definitely one of the best Steffen films.
Iâm a big fan of Dead Men Donât Count which has a nice German blu ray
Anthony Steffen has moved up alongside Franco Nero as my favourite Spaghetti actor, while itâs true some of the prints of his fliks arenât great, the Blu Ray of Django the Bastard is excellentâŚ
No Room to Die is another great flik from Steffen and Director Sergio GarroneâŚ
I was surprised how much I enjoyed Arizona Colt Returns too (prefer it to Gemmaâs original TBH!!)
I have never watched a Steffen flick that I didnât enjoy actually. No Room To Die and Django the Bastard are my two favorites but thereâs many more that I come back to and enjoy.
So, they have to be on Blu-ray in order for you to watch them? The DVDs of Steffenâs films have excellent transfers.
Yes. No such thing as a good 480p transfer imo, Iâm too used to good detailed image quality to go back to something thatâs lacking fidelity.
Thanks to the rarity of some spags, Iâm used to watching films in VHS quality. For example I canât imagine watching a copy of Hate is my God which isnât a TV/VHS rip. Maybe the blu-ray will come out by the time weâre all in zimmer framesâŚ
Yeah, but that doesnât change the fact that theyâre almost unwatchable for those used to good image quality⌠besides, in 2024, the ones that donât have a bluray yet are usually the crappier ones (with some exceptions like the ruthless four). Arrow practically saved the sartana films from remaining in crappy dvd quality for eternity, why not save steffenâs films?
Didnât you just basically say that itâs crap if itâs not on blu ray by 2024?
A good film is a good film, even on a full screen pan & scan VHS tape.
GBU was on such a tape (which was my only chance to watch it for some years) the same masterpiece as it is now on a Blu. No, I donât need HD to appreciate films. But of course prefer to have them as good as possible.
Thereâs plenty of goodies left to make it to blu-ray or even DVD! Too many to mention but for example DEAD MEN RIDE, RUTHLESS FOUR, JOHN THE BASTARD, GO WITH GOD GRINGO, $1000 ON THE BLACK, BLINDMAN, SONORA, KILLER KID, SONNY & JED, TASTE OF KILLING, SHOOT GRINGO SHOOT etcâŚ
Imagine avoiding this film for years just because thereâs no 1080p version. No way, itâs just too good
Also, many of us have been fans of the genre for goodness knows how many years. As a consequence, we only first encountered these films on TV or videotape, because no other formats (DVD, BD etc) existed. Little did we know that other more up to date formats would keep being introduced.
In other words, a lot of SW fans - myself included - fell in love with these films even when they were released on what we would now regard as âpoor qualityââŚ
Google the definitions of âusuallyâ and âexceptionsâ
There actually is a 1080p webrip version of blindman, just no bluray⌠very odd. The scans exist, it was just never released.
I donât need HD to appreciate films, but I need it to enjoy them⌠As I said Iâm too used to good image quality to go back, when these films were shown in theaters the quality was good, itâs the way they are intended to be seen and the closest to that is a good bluray scan.
I know perfectly well what it means, but itâs bold to suggest that thereâs a âfew exceptionsâ and whatâs not out already is âusually the crappier onesâ. In an environment of enthusiasts and fans that would track down what ever raw VHS scan of a beat up TV-print with splices all over in a foreign language just to get to see a specific movie theyâve been reading or hearing about, and finding diamonds in the rough, no matter if was a Sartana film 15 years ago or some other unreleased film today.
