Spaghetti Western Database is the place to be, if you like Spaghetti Westerns. There is so much to explore on this web-site.
Antonio De Teffe (Anthony Steffen), is a favourite, so I am sure that you will have much to talk about with other members on âSWDBâ.
What is your favourite Anthony Steffen movie?
Please, feel free to talk about anythingâŚyou are welcomeâŚ
Welcome to the community Marta!
Steffen is a hero of mine and it is s great to know he has such appeal. One of my personal favourite spaghetti westerns is SOME DOLLARS FOR DJANGO. I think Steffen gives a great performance. If you have not seen it I recommend checking it out!
Welcome to this fine community. Iâve read this forum for years, and am certain you will enjoy your time here. As a self-described film buff who has only recently discovered the full-blooded pleasures of the Spaghetti Western, your first impressions of the genre, and specific actors and films, are of particular interest to me, and many others here Iâd imagine: You offer us the perspective of âvirgin eyes.â And I think you are absolutely right to appreciate the heroic visage of Anthony Steffen, as do I. Years ago on this same thread there was an insightful post that, in my opinion, made the case for Steffen, while acknowledging that Steffenâs acting range is something less than infinite: âSteffen may be one -dimensional ⌠BUT WHAT A DIMENSION!â
My personal Steffen favorites include GARRINGO, DEAD MEN DONâT COUNT, SHANGO, and the light-hearted, humorous TRAIN FROM DURANGO. The latter proves, I think, that Steffen had an unsuspected range and prowess as an actor.
Very best wishes to you from this small corner of the northwestern United States. Great respect for Poland and its good people.
I am sorry that I did not write back, but I added an 18-hour block, because I exceeded the comment limit available on the first day after registration. Hopefully this is only for the first day and there will be no limits
I love Antonioâs face, intelligent, with penetrating eyes, it is the face of an outstanding strategist, a thinking face. And thatâs a rarity for actors. This made me search for films with him and information about him. And thatâs why I like him so much.

I am glad that not only do I value Antonio highly, he is a great actor and he plays every role with great empathy. And he has a thinking, very intelligent face
I watched and many more. I like âDjango il bastardoâ, âUna luga fila di crociâ, âShangoâ, âUna bara per lo sceriffoâ, âI morti non si contanoâ â1000 dollari por Neroâ, âIl sou nome gridava vedettaâ, âKiller Kidâ, but also the sensational films: âGli assassini sono nostro ospitiâ and âLos mil ojos del asesinoâ. And others too
I would like to watch âGarringoâ in its original version
I like the original Italian version the most. I can watch Django il bastardo every day and always with great interest.
1000 dollari sul Nero I have favorite passages, as well as Una lunga fila di croci, and il suo nome gridava vedetta. My shango is of poor quality, so I watch less often. I often look at i morti non si contano but as quien grita venganza in the Spanish version and of course I often watch the Italian version of Killer Kid with Czech subtitles, because I havenât found another one, and Iâm looking mainly for Italian. Of course, I also have my thoughts and ratings for the characters from the movies. But Iâll write about it next time, because Iâm at work right now. Although he works from home, remotely, but I have to do my job greetings that Szczecin (Poland)
I would like to mention some interesting facts about Antonio de Teffe. Let me start by saying that he was born not in 1929 but on 07/21/1930. He had four children. I know one is Manuel (I have the most information for him) and the other is Luiz, I donât know anything about the other two. His wife was several years younger than him, and she married Antonio very early. He disappointed me with his decision to leave his wife, they had four children. I thought he had similar rules in life as in SW where he was always very empathetic. I can understand him a little, but not justify him. You donât get four children and then you leave your wife.
As usual, a marriage based on fascination, love based only on appearance, did not survive.
A mature man and a young girl, what could they have in common but lust. After a few years he passed, because apart from the beauty of his wife, which is common and passing, there was no intellectual bond. He was a man of high intelligence, so you can understand that he needed someone who thinks alike, with whom to discuss, and even for malicious words, receive the same reply. This breeds respect, creates friendship, which cement the relationship and makes it lasting.
He died on June 4, 2004 of lung cancer. This was no surprise to me. My assumptions were confirmed when I read about Antonioâs health before his death. There was information everywhere that he died of cancer, but it was not known what organ of cancer it was. While watching many of his films, I suspected lung cancer. Antonio was with a cigarette in almost every scene. It must have been a terrible addiction. It is a pity, because he could live longer and not be so tired.
However, after watching a lot of movies with Antonio, I can confidently say that he was the best actor for SW. His best roles were in those movies, and SW movies didnât have a better actor. It was a truly successful marriage: Anthony Steffen and SW.
I would like to add that I also watched other films with Antonio, not SW, so I have an opinion.
I do not know if you paid attention, but the scripts written by Antonio de Teffe (âDjango il Bastardoâ, âShangoâ, âThe Killer with a Thousand Eyesâ - great role Antonio, I did not just watch âAl Tropico del Cancroâ) did not contain any love thread. This suggests that other things were more important to him than love.
But of course these are just my thoughts.
I have been working a lot lately, so I can rarely write something, so when I am writing, itâs once but a lot
I have a few corrections to my post.
From a reliable source, because of the son of Antonio de Teffe - Manuel, I knew that his mother, and wife Antonio, had 4 children and that she loved Antonio until the end of her life. So I concluded that she had these four children with Antonio. I read from the Brazilian media that he left his wife and two sons (Manuel and Luiz four years younger), then he remarried, no children. So I donât know if he didnât want to know these two other kids, or if Antonella (first wife) was having a relationship with another man, which would not fit Manuelâs information about Antonellaâs great love for Antonio. On the other hand, only Manuel and Luiz were with him at the time of his death.
It turns out that Antonio finally became alienated from the institution of marriage because, according to Brazilian magazines, he was harassed by women. He realized he didnât want any more emotional commitments. He married for the first time very late, around forty, the children were born in the seventies. He had a rebellious nature and wanted to be free, therefore he remained a bachelor for a long time. But you can see Antonella was able to domesticate him, but not for long. His nature took over.
Now for acting.
Antonio never wanted to use stuntmen,
whose services are used very often by actors. He did everything himself. Once, even while filming one of his westerns, he had an accident on a horse. The horse fell on him and Antonio was hospitalized.
And finally, such a reflection. When Antonio was 2 years old, his parents split up and he stayed with his mother in Italy. When he was fourteen he joined the anti-Nazi guerrilla. I have the impression that this decision was influenced by the fact that his mother got involved with a member of the Nazi party. Antonio was 6 at the time, I donât know how long this relationship lasted, but
I suspect his relationship with his motherâs friend was not good, and his rebellious nature could not stand it.
I start to get drawn in digging through the biography, especially since he was a very mysterious and unusual man. And an added bonus of finding and reading information in different languages. It is a pity that I have little time.
