AI Smart Glasses—every Spaghetti Western fan’s dream?
At least at first glance, that sounds great—various features, including simultaneous translations from 164 languages. Does that mean, for example, that if I pop a Spanish DVD into the player, put on the glasses, and then get a simultaneous translation into my preferred language?
First, you have to install the Ear Dance app on your smartphone, then establish a Bluetooth connection to the glasses, and set the source language in the app—in the case of a Spanish DVD, that’s Spanish—and the desired output language, which in my case is German.
Yes, it works, but with some limitations. The translation captures the general meaning, but with fast-paced sentences and a lot of dialogue, the voice—which speaks at a constant speed—can’t keep up, so some sentences are skipped. The translation is displayed simultaneously on the app, however, and is complete. It’s best to press the pause button and wait until the voice has caught up. Since development is constantly progressing and improving, I assume that in 1–2 years these translations will work perfectly, so that you’ll be able to insert any DVD or Blu-ray in any language into the drive and have it translated.
I tested it with Spanish, Italian, and English, each translated into German.
Right now, I’d give them 3.5 out of 5 stars, but I’d recommend everyone try these AI smart glasses. In my case, I paid €34 (and Amazon offers a 14-day return policy).
All in all, a fantastic invention!
