Lol. Please do! I think Iām on to something
āA Reason to Live, a Reason to Dieā
on UK TV, channel 41 Legend @ 21:00
⦠looks to be the shorter cut, as expected - worth a look for those who havenāt seen it yet, but not a mind blowing classic, unfortunately.
Trying to confirm a rumor that just popped up that the upcoming German BluRay will include the longer cut at least as bonus material in SD (with the German TV dub I presume). Wonāt be of much help but better than nothing⦠the label thatās putting it out is either too cheap to have an HD transfer made of that material or the TV channel that sits on the material isnāt cooperative in that regardā¦
Edit: confirmed, included in SD.
Iām pretty sure they (the ZDF) donāt have any HD material at hand, they just have the tape they used in the 90s for airing it. If they have kept it at all, cause it is useless for them now.
Donāt know if the German TV stations still keep stuff like that, in former decades they did that.
Probably just the āMAZā⦠but then why not communicate that, instead of it being too expensive to do (what Dolphin wrote)⦠but so far no other international label has stepped up, either
Yes, I think from the ZDF they could get at best that MAZ, the one they used in the Pal times for the airing. But does such a MAZ has DVD quality? This MAZ was made for 90s TV in 4:3 Pal quality. So it maybe is only slightly better than VHS. And then it is just a better-than-nothing bonus feature.
But maybe they got a SD master from elsewhere, from a previously released foreign DVD, and put the ZDF dub over it.
Well there was a previous DVD from e-m-s, their predecessor company, so they already has the SD material
Yes, but that was only a copy in good VHS quality, as far as I remember, probably indeed taken directly from the ZDF master, but SD may refer to DVD quality.
No, the more I watch it, the better it gets. I watched the shorter American theatrical version on the Kino Blu-ray and thought it was just as good as the original. Thereās a few bits that work better but itās a shame they cut so many good scenes with Bud Spencer at the beginning.
This film has to be one of the directorās finest. I think it might actually be a better film than Day of Anger. Itās difficult to rank but itās worthy of being in a top 20 list, absolutely brilliant stuff!
Didnāt get that impression at all.
I guess weāll have to agree to disagree then.
Thatās a way of asserting dominance, not necessarily sexual. Even among those who are loyal to him, he wants to remind others of his position. Heās more reminiscent of a dictator, living out his life like a mad king in the fortress, not unlike the General Chavez character in El Condor.
Savalas uses the penis of a statue to light a match. This is the highlight of the movie.
Gave the film 2.5 stars on Letterboxd, but in my grading it would be 4.5/10.
Does the new German Blu Ray have English tracks or subtitles. Canāt tell from Amazon.de.
No, nothing.
Only German language for all three Versions.
no, and feel free to consult this website for such things: swdb
Rewatching this. Still like it a lot, but not as much as back in the day. It is rather slow, thatās true, but I still enjoy the thing.
PS: the SD version on the new German BluRay isnāt much fun especially in dark scenes, but overall it looks alright scaled up on my 4K screen and the HD versions of the shorter movies they have included donāt look worlds better either.
If I remember correctly, this SD version als looks better than the one that used to be on the EMS DVD.
SignalOne in the UK are having a sale and their relatively recent Bluray release of this one is now available for a fiver.
Itās a bare bones / vanilla release and really wasnāt worth the original release price but, for a fiver? Yeah, itās worth jumping on that.
Itās a shame that the one I want, āVilla Rides,ā isnāt included in the sale.
Iām guessing thereās no difference between the Kino and Signal transfers?
