Actually the first 3 get in the SW list 25, 21 and 19 points. And then from 17 (for #4) down to 1.

But in the end it doesn’t make a great difference.

Question: Do mini TV-series count?

No. Films only. And only American Westerns too, so no Eurowesterns or “contempory” Westerns like Hud or No Country for Old Men or The Treasure of the Sierre Madre.

Very difficult to bring the list of favorite westerns down to 20
Another thing is that I would be able to pick one film and call it my favorite. Talking about the spaghetti western, there are (for me) two movies way above the rest, in relation to the Almerican western it’s not that easy.

This is my list of 20 favorites, in chronological order (those in maroon are the Top 10):

1948 - Blood on the Moon
1948 - Fort Apache
1948 - The Paleface
1949 - Colorado Territory
1950 - The Gunfighter
1952 - High Noon
1953 - Shane
1955 - The Man from Laramie
1958 - Man of the West
1959 - Warlock
1959 - Ride Lonesome
1959 - Rio Bravo
1962 - The Man who shot Liberty Valence
1962 - Ride the High Country
1969 - Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
1969 - Tell them Willie Boy is here
1970 - Monte Walsh
1970 - Little Big Man
1972 - Jeremiah Johnson
2010 - True Grit

  1. Outlaw Josey Wales
  2. True Grit (remake)
  3. 3:10 to Yuma (remake)
  4. Pale Rider
  5. Magnificent Seven
  6. Silverado
  7. High Plains Drifter
  8. Open Range
  9. Cowboys and Aliens
  10. Shanghai Noon
  11. Django Unchained
  12. The Gunfighter
  13. The Shootist
  14. Breakheart Pass
  15. Boss Nigger
  16. High Noon
  17. Quick and the Dead
  18. Buck and the Preacher
  19. Louis L’Amour’s Quick and the Dead
  20. Tombstone

This list will probably change as I see more American westerns.

Not a big fan of American westerns, but a list would look something like this:

  1. The Wild Bunch
  2. Posse from Hell
  3. High Noon
  4. 3:10 to Yuma
  5. El Dorado
  6. Unforgiven
  7. Gunfight at O.K. Corral
  8. High Plains Drifter
  9. 100 Rifles
  10. Blazing Saddles
  11. The Ox-Bow Incident
  12. Mackenna’s Gold
  13. The Badlanders
  14. Hour of the Gun
  15. Terror in a Texas Town
  16. The Hunting Party

1948 - The Paleface

Interesting choice with that one, Scherps!
Is it for Bob Hope’s comic relief or for the sexy and sensual Jane Russell.

Awesome! I love all three: Paleface, Son of Paleface, and Fancy Pants. In Son of, Roy Rogers has a rifle hidden in his guitar that, if I recall correctly, he cocks by running his hand up and down the neck. Coolest thing ever.

Terror in a Texas Town

Thought for sure I’d be the only one with this on their list!

Nice choice, chuck connors brother

Thanks, i’ve only seen the 1988 edit

It’s a nice list Scherp, but I’m sure you’re appreciate that it will be quite hard for me count it, points-wise… ???
