The Last Movie You Watched? ver.2.0

I had a similar reaction to T2 on my last viewing. The first little bit was enjoyable but then it becomes a bore when it moves on to the second half which used to be so impressive.

The original Terminator is much more entertaining watch now. One which I didn’t fully appreciate as a kid but now view it as a top entry in scifi action that uses exploitation type elements.

I think the action too was pretty bad. With those slow motion impact scenes. The story was really awful. The propaganda, not uncommon in war movies, was laid on way too thick.

No, T-34 is no Fury, for sure.

I agree, Fury is a masterpiece in comparison.

Suicide Ride / Finding Interest (1995)

Very unknown movie with only 63 ratings on IMDB. This is one of the best unknown films I’ve seen. About a guy (Barney Barnaby) who is into movies and works a soul killing office job seeking to put some adventure into his life. Really unique stuff here, its a shame it hasn’t received any attention.

Watched Solomon Kane. Something different but enjoyed it. Beautiful landscape. Bad CGI at the end unfortunately. But overall entertainment.

It was a good choice to watch it without the misses :grimacing:

I was really taken with it when it came out. I read the books by Robert E. Howard when I was younger. James Purefoy was perfect in the role.

Do you recommend any of the books?
Or is there a good compilation book that you know of?

The Savage Tales of Solomon Kane is compilation volume from Del Rey books. It is part of their Robert E. Howard library.
I had to order it from the USA.

THE MAN WHO HAUNTED HIMSELF (1970), Directed by Basil Dearden

While driving home from work one evening, businessman, Harold Pelham (played superbly by Roger Moore), has a car accident. While on the hospital operating table, Pelham briefly dies, but is then resuscitated.
When he awakens, and returns to work - and his troubled family life - he is plagued by what appears to be a doppelganger.
Is Pelham mad, or is a ‘double’ attempting to turn entire his life upside down?

This has always been one of my favourites films, and features - imho - an all-time best acting performance from the much-maligned Roger Moore, who excels as a tormented man, whose ordered life begins to mysteriously unravel, and spiral out of his control.

The film also features a memorable soundtrack from renowned composer, Michael J. Lewis, who does a first-rate job of capturing the film’s mysterious, haunting atmosphere.

It the late great Sir Roger’s favourite films and rightly so.

Roger Moore was a great leading man in my opinion. My personal favourite with him is Gold from 1974, a very underrated film.

Saw ‘Gold’ on the big screen, in 1974, and loved it. I watched it again, on DVD two weeks ago, and still loved it. The film score, by Elmer Bernstein, is outstanding.
‘Shout at the Devil’ (1976), and ‘The Wild Geese’ (1978), are also excellent actioners, featuring Roger Moore.

To some Sir Roger up I would say “Nobody does it better!”
Hey he even did Maverick!!

I watched Taxi Driver at about 4 am (couldn’t sleep). I hadn’t seen it in a long time and I found it almost shocking in parts. I had first seen it on TV when I was a teenager and later bought it on DVD and then blu-ray. It’s still my favourite Scorsese film. As someone now in my mid-30s I think I picked up on more of the shocking aspects than I did back when I was in my early 20s. Back then it was just a “cool movie,” but now, to me, it’s a sad, dark story of a lonely, isolated man stuck in the insanity of NYC night life in the 70s. Truly melodramatic.

I love Taxi Driver. After trying to get on board the Scorsese train, I found I don’t like a lot of his films very much. But Taxi Driver is one of my favorites

Gave Churchill’s Leopards a rewatch, because it’s a sort of Dutch tradition to watch WWII movies around the 5th of May.

Plenty of spaghetti involvement, both in front, and behind the camera.

Didn’t remember it being a particular good movie, but it was worse than I remembered. Not a total crapfest, but still. The inserted stock footage didn’t help either. Overall just ok-ish.

A good choice i think. A nice boook which contains the whole Solomon Kane saga.

Del Rey also have several compilations of Howard stories.

The only other one I have is The Coming of Conan the Cimarian (I’m not sure on the spelling.)

I class it as a Macaroni combat movie. And I agree with you, its OK. Not terrible but still entertaining enough with your feet up drinking some beer.
