It’s literally decades since I saw this, but I do remember it being a good one … wonder if I’d still like it now, especially as I’d have to endure not only ‘Eye Shadow Bob’, but Stewart ‘Feckin’ Granger ! … another pet hate.
Gave “The Way of the Gun” (Christopher McQuarrie, 2000) another watch after seeing it years ago, and I really feel like this is a movie a lot of members here might enjoy.
Kind of got lost in the late 90s/early 2000s wave of Tarantino wannabes, but it’s really more of a Peckinpah homage than anything else. Some of the best shootouts ever put on film if you ask me, with lavish attention to detail in terms of proper gun usage. I’m not a gun enthusiast by any means but the attention to detail here makes for some incredible action scenes.
Really interesting cast too, with a solid late career James Caan performance and some shockingly good turns by guys who never impressed me otherwise (Ryan Phillippe, Taye Diggs). Definitely recommended!
Good thing I didn’t offer to eat my hat again if liked this one, because it’s really good.
Both lead actors very much playing against type, with Robert Taylor as an oafish killer, and Stewart Granger as the thoughtful sympathetic character with a conscience who team up reluctantly on a hunt that’s a showdown waiting to happen … Excellent direction and strong performances all round.
